one israeli woman was killed during a settlement in the west bank. two others were wounded.r was killed by a security guard. the alleged attacker, a palestinian from the west bank was captured a short time later in an apartment building. nic robertson is joining us from jerusalem. nic, what is going on over there because it seems there were these car attacks, now these stabbings. what are folks there saying? >> reporter: that tensions are going up, the incident this afternoon, the stabbing this afternoon in the west bank, we've looked at the cc-tv video, the security video, at the bus stop where the attack took place. the attacker, first thing he does is drive his van up just like the attack we saw in east jerusalem last week, drive his van up, knock somebody over, get out of the van, go back, start stabbing that person, chase somebody else across the road, start trying to stab him until he's interrupted and then security forces shoot him. but one of the people injured there in the stabbing, a 24-year-old lady, died later in hospital. the attacker is in the hospital as well.

within hours, this in the west bank at sunset. a van driver deliberately drives into someone at a bus stop, knocks them down. all caught on security camera video. seconds later, the van driver comes back, finds the person he knocked down, starts stabbing them. then he crosses the road, chases, then attacks another victim before he is interrupted. a third man appears to spray something on the attacker. he crosses the road again and returns to his first victim. police say three people were injured in this stabbing attack. one of them, a 24 year old woman, dying at the scene. the attacker, whom police describe as a terrorist, shot at the scene by a guard. hours later, the radical islamic group islamic jihad praises both the west bank and tel aviv attackers. tensions and concerns here rising. tel aviv, israel. >>> all right. want to turn to the weather now. and on monday, parts of the u.s. saw temperatures drop some 40 degrees fahrenheit or around 22 degrees celsius in just a few hours. this is all part of a massive cold spell settlin

tensions include deadly incidents in jerusalem, gaza and the west bank.er today, israeli troops killed a palestinian man during clashes in a west bank refugee camp and on monday a 20-year-old israeli soldier was fatally stabbed at a tel aviv bus stop. three israelis were stabbed, one of them killed near a west bank settlement. let's head to jerusalem and bring in our senior international correspondent nick robertson. nick there are serious concerns these relatively small-scale incidents could really explode and grow into something much bigger. >> there really is and that's a huge concern at the moment. when you listen to the state of the political rhetoric that we've heard, prime minister benjamin netanyahu saying he will send more troops into the west bank to keep security there. that he will put tougher penalties on though protesters, potentially even finding their parents. he also said the palestinian authority president, mahmoud abbas, is lying when he says that israel is trying to bring about a religious war overaccess to religious sites inside jerus

but there was a mosque alight in the west bank. absolutely both ways and it's concerning because it's extremely inning flam tore any a region where it doesn't take much to really exploit it. and when you are attacking holy sites of worship, it is something that might push things over the urge. we didn't see that in the aftermath of the mosque in the occupied west bank, now a synagog has been attacked. we know the israeli government will be keen to tighten their grip on security in east gentleman russ legal. they have already done that over the last few weeks. there is blips in the sky monitoring the street where they never had been before. more police, they will try to control things. they won't calm the pal still vinnie streets certainly. it's an extremely volatile time we'll have to see how it plays out. absolutely both sides involved getting to each other again. remember this is a conflict that has two sides, extremely passionate, history, tradition, two sides that very often don't compromised and don't believe to give anything

it's when the violence really spreads throughout the west bank and gaza. that is what the palestinian leader is saying. the people trying to make it happen is the hamas leadership in gaza. they're calling on palestinians in the west bank to carry out more such operations. they're putting fire to the fuel, they're trying to make it -- but the palestinian leadership in the west bank says they don't want that, they're cooperating very closely. they have been cooperating very well over the last few months despite the attention. certainly there are a lot of things going on right now that would indicate that the violence is growing and spreading. a overall uprising by the palestinian population like we saw in 2000 seems unlikely at this point. >> do we know any more about the two attackers. >> as you mentioned they're two dozens. their relative was released from israeli jail not too long ago. we know also that it was possibly to destroy their homes. but it is not really a matter of where these two people -- what drove them. the fact is they come from a deep pool
