let's go further out to the west because the heat is building farther to the west now. boise, idaho today 100 degrees, portland 90. that's so hot for them, reno 98 and vegas not uncharacteristic but still hot there. basically this week we still see the jet stream way up out west and allowing this big heat zone to set. so not everybody in the west will be extremely hot, but some locations will be well up into the triple digits and in some sense since this has built a little more out to the west it helps us because what it does is it keeps this persistent trough in place for us and what it means, what's most importantly, no heatwave. it will be in the upper 80s to low 90s pretty much all week long, but hopefully by the end of the week with this jet stream kind of in this orientation it will allow a little cooler air to settle in. maybe by the time we get to saturday and sunday we're talking middle 80s. so that will be real nice. a little thunderstorm activity down to the south of us, but that's all past and stayed well south of us tonight. we have this frontal boundary in place

west. st. louis made it back up to triple digits today, dallas 104, del rio 105 and look at boise, idaho, 106 degrees for a high temperature today. vegas was 108 and phoenix is supposed to be hot. they were 112. even up to great falls, montana, 97 for a high today. now they're beginning to get some heat. it's good news for us. no heatwave coming our way. the core of the heat will stay to west and it looks like later on this weekend we may actually get cooler air coming in from up north. temperature right now in the city is 80 degrees, out in the suburbs getting a little cooler, frederick down to 70 degrees, winchester and martinsburg holding at 72. fredericksburg tonight is sitting at 79 degrees. showers, thunderstorms stayed south of us. we had a tornado warning earlier. that was st. mary's in calvert county, a waterspout coming across the patuxent river. it was real small. it didn't do any damage and quickly dissipated. that prompted that tornado warning in case you heard that earlier. all the rain has been really down to the south. thunderstorms tonight, a few out toward charlottesville. they had
