but the west coast is looking just fine. as i mentioned, it's just very cold on the heels of that big storm that we had two days ago. you notice we have clear skies throughout much of utah, nevada, california. that cold front going through arizona even produced some snow last night at the higher elevations in the mountains, so this cold blast has sunk all the way down to the border there with mexico. now, the next storm system is trying to move into the pacific northwest and over the next day or two it's going to be slow moving. we are watching snow from bellingham down to seattle. temperatures will warm up at the lower elevations but this morning we could get a half inch to an inch so be careful driving on interstate 5 early today. the temperature right now is only 29 in seattle, so it's still very cold. those temperatures are down to the 20s all the way to medford. at least they're a little warmer than your friends back here. look at salt lake city and poisy. even in vegas this morning it's down to 33 degrees. at least wit

it is the largest estuary on the west coast. i hope this isn't an omen of all of the slides because we're going to all have to turn funny. it's the largest estuary on the west coast on both the north and south american continents. it's a region that's home to about 7 million people. it's beautiful, prosperous, a spectacular place. this is my beat. this is where i work. now, this is the bay back in the middle of the 19th century. the yellow area shows where the bay used to be, where the tidal wetlands were. it used to be much bigger than it is today. but siltation from hydraulic gold mining, diking to create salt ponds and duck hunting clubs, garbage dumps along the shore of the bay and frankly land fill operations to create real estate reduced the size of the bay by about a third between 1849 and 1960. that's when the united states army corps of engineers produced this map. it was intended to show that it was economically feasible and, in fact, desirable to fill another 60 percent of the bay. that was their intention. instead, w

seems there's a divide in the democratic party in the country between the coasts, the california coast out west, washington state, back east, new york, sort of the -- we might call them the port cities. the coasts. they're better off economically. they are doing well in the democratic party. the democratic party did great in new york state. they won all the senate races for both senate seats. they did great in massachusetts with deval patrick and all the members of the house being re-elected. you get into the middle of the country, starting in pennsylvania and all way across the midwest the industrial part of the country the democrats got wiped out. marcie kaptur just spoke for them. she is concerned that the democratic party is currently put together is not in a position to win the hearts and minds and keep the jobs and win the jobs of the people of the middle of the country. you are out there in berkeley on the west coast. do you think you can speak for the people in the middle of the country? isn't this a problem that nancy pelosi is from san francisco. she doesn't understand the problems of
