there were two in west hollywood, hollywood two and in north hollywood seven. one fire fwierfighter was injur a citizen suffered smoke inhalation. fortunately there has been no loss of life related to these fires to date, and there have been no civilian injuries. the task force has worked together seamlessly around the clock and currently are reviewing more than 100 clues mapping out the sequence of the fires that occurred, interviewing hundreds of witnesses, and canvassing the 53 fire scenes as part of this active investigation. hundreds of investigators and uniformed personnel from throughout the city and county of los angeles have been deployed to assist. additionally, multiple search warrants have been authored and se served as part of this investigation. to date, these fires have caused well in excess of $2 million in damage to vehicles and to structures. on monday, january 2nd, shortly after 3:00 a.m., a los angeles county sheriff's deputy, assigned to west hollywood station, stopped the driver of a van near sunset boulevard and fairfax avenue in the city

they have to work throughout the weekend to skillfully combat fires throughout west hollywood and prevent loss of life in that city. both the los angeles police department and the los angeles county fire department saturated the city from los angeles to west hollywood with officers and who assigning detectives to the case throughout the weekend. their efforts cannot be understated. the vigilance of the l.a. sheriff's reserved deputy this morning on sunset boulevard and fairfax avenue lead to a traffic stop which allowed law enforcement to take the suspect into custody. i would like to announce the coordination of the bureau of alcohol, fire, and explosives, which sent a team of agents to assist with the investigation. all of these agencies continue to work around the clock to investigate a 52 arson fires we have experienced since friday morning. it costs to -- it caused about $3 million in damage. by no means is this investigation complete. based on the saturday evening news conference held by the arson task force and video images and distributed to the media, the task force revealed tips

so far, 55 fires were started, 45 in los angeles, 9 in west hollywood and one in burbank. you can see it's a very active scene out here and it's been incredibly noisy fight for folks who live in west hollywood. it's been noisy four days as sirens continue to go off. we do have a person of interest. a lot of the folks who live in this area are hoping that this is the person that police are actually going to arrest so they can get a little bit of sleep here tonight. live in west hollywood, cbs 5. >>> i would imagine the people there have been pretty scared. three or four night, 55 fires. >> reporter: police aren't saying exactly what it is. they have been looking at devices that have been spotted underneath the cars. police were investigating that. they're not saying what caused any of these fires. it's just been extremely long four nights for most folks who live in west los angeles and west hollywood as well. folks had trouble sleeping out here and lot of folks have cars parked near their apartment and it's tough to sleep. >> no kidding. thank you. >>> stanford in the spot

joining me now sh the mayor of west hollywood, john duran, four of the fires have been in his city. also with me los angeles fire captain jamie moore. first, captain, we have heard 21 fires over two days. the l.a. times is saying 35 fires over three days k. you clarity how many fires you are dealing with here and do you think they are all linked? >> well, yeah, we are looking at automobile fires -- the majority of the fires are underneath car ports adjacent to parking structures. all the single-family are the dwellings/21 fires between the county of los angeles yesterday morning. and this morning we had a total of 14 fires between city of los angeles and the county of los angeles. 13 of those fires were in the city of los angeles' jurisdicti jurisdiction. ten of them are in the burbank area. thee three of them in the fairfax area of los angeles, which is the southwest area. this is just west of hollywood. >> so it is amazing because we see the video there on the screen of the intensity of the fires as well. captain, there are no arrests, but do you have any suspects? are you close t
