so right now the center of low pressure is located 90 miles to the west of philly. we still have very heavy rain coming down in d.c., a blizzard taking place in west virginia and wind gusts still clocking upwards of 60 miles per hour throughout the northeast. let's talk about some of the different highlights that we've seen from this storm. so far it's been just tremendous. once the sun starts to come up, and that's happening right now during this broadcast, we're going to be able to show you that aftermath so stick with us here on nbc bay area. record surge, almost 14-foot storm surge in new york city. we also had a record wave at 32 feet high. new york, new jersey, connecticut, in connecticut, new york and new jersey we have runway damage. it's unknown, we're going to get reports as we progress through the morning but check ahead with your carrier again today on all your flights if you're headed toward the northeast. we could also see ripples throughout the country today. we'll continue to track the path of sandy. still dealing with the storm for at least the next

right now the center of low pressure is 80 miles west of philly. we're getting very heavy rain in d.c. we have blizzard warnings in place for much of west virginia. and the good news is, if there is any good news, the system will clear out of here quickly. it should be down to a depression at the end of the day and then start to race into canada as we head through tonight. so this is what we are talking about in terms of storm reports. so far almost a 14-foot storm surge in new york city. we had reports of a wave 32.5 feet high. that's tantamount to a three-story building. we still have a lot of damage on the runways of the airports in new york, new jersey and connecticut. we'll continue to bring you updates on this very devastating storm sandy and where she's headed next coming up. first let's check your drive with mike inouye. >> definitely a big concern to the bay area residents. why would i show you this ugly picture? because that's what you're dealing with. the headlights are northbound 280. we normally show you the approach and i can't see tha

look at where it is, right on the border of pennsylvania, kind of west of philly.s over the next couple of days. then, sitting in western new york state. then, hooking up into canada. our friends in canada will get a little bit of this storm, as well. it will have strong winds and a little bit of rain and eventually be pushed out into the canadian maritimes. here's that wind field. some of the heaviest winds is forced inland. same with the rain. still, there will be rain that lights up along the shoreline. we get periodic rain showers. so will you, too. but inland areas, much heavier rain. >>> now, to lara spencer in connecticut. it was a difficult night. we were getting wind gust reports there, as well. and it was a tough one. >> the wind was a huge problem, sam. one of the big concerns and not one that i think a lot of people were thinking about. they were thinking about the power. they were thinking about the flooding. but fires burned. we have pictures in old saybrook of a fire out of control. firefighters and first responders unable to help. houses burning to
