heavy snow through philly, new york, hartford, and just west of boston before things wrap up thursday morning. again, basically from southeast new jersey and parts of eastern pennsylvania reaching up across new england, this will dump over a foot of snow. looking at some of the major cities, heavy snowfall at times, 4 to 8 feet in philly, 8 to 14 in scranton, hartford at 5-10, boston at 1 to 3 and from a coastal perspective, the winds won't be as strong. t e seen a lot of damage at the coast, seawalls broken down, these winds that will gust over 50 at the shoreline will cause moderate to minor coastal flooding. power outages, again, an issue with this storm. i'm meteorologist eric fisher for cbs news. >>> the storm is having a major impact on travel, particularly in the northeast. so far this morning, nearly 2,000 flights have been canceled within the united states. most of them at newark liberty and john f. kennedy airports. some airlines are waiving ticket change fees. some will operate on a modified schedule gary cohn, the president's top economic adviser resigned yesterday followi

west. and raining down to the south and east. and northwestern suburbs it snows all night and waking up to slushy roads in southeastern pennsylvania. 8:00 if the morning in philadelphia. philly will mix at times it will be in the morning hours tomorrow sleet or rain at times possibly with rain down to tth and snow to the north and west. as that low deepens here off our coast and yanks down the cold air and temperatures fall into the 30s and snow takes over for a good chunk of the delaware and lehigh valley. and snows at heavy rates orrow. collapses down to the shore briefly before it exits here and temperatures flirting with freezing in those northwest suburbs. as we go into the storm our later thinking with this is highnce. it hits double digit snowfall totals in the lehigh valley. and areas northern bucks and berks county. low confidence though along i-95. the heart of our viewing area because that is where the bat zone will be of. does is it mix for a long period of time for sleet and rain or does it stay on track. that is the one zone we have to watch. here is the high confident area of 10 to 15 inches of snow a beast of a storm all areas in the purple. and in the pink 6

philly, 0 around atlantic city. eastern long island, nothing. and then you jump on i-95 and head north and west and the totals significantly begin to jump higher. and that is where we'll be watching some of the higher snowfall totals. and some of the biggest problems too. the thing with this storm is that when it comes in, it will come in fast. and it will be snowfall rates of two to three inches an hour, numerous people reporting thundersnow. so this storm will get intense. there will be a thunderstorm producing snow. you may see flashes of lightning, definitely hear the thunder. and that will happening philadelphia to new york city as we go throughout the afternoon and right toward the evening rush hour. and then that whole mess heads north. so this reddish color, that is a foot. some of the mountains could get higher than that. official forecast for philadelphia was increased overnight to 8 to 12 inches. new york city is at 8 to 12, boston, because of that warmer easterly wind, you are in the 1 to 3 inch mark. albany also in that 8 to 12 inches. so don't expect a problem with your morning co
