we're in the middle of a desert here in west texas, wide open spaces.ot a lot of rain, which is good. but there is quite a bit of wind. that wind caused one delay from tuesday to wednesday and then a second delay of about 30 minutes. so wind has been a big concern here. it is not too bad from what i can tell, where i'm standing, a few miles away from the laun launchpad, but certainly something to watch. i'm not saying that is the reason for this delay that we're seeing right now. this hold. but you can see the crew very happy, excited, jeff bezos in the driver's seat laughing. this is a moment for jeff bezos being able to send one of his childhood heroes into space, captain kirk, and the "star trek" franchise was one of the things that inspired jeff bezos to get into space and build this company. and so he's talked quite a bit about how special this moment is for him, just three months after he himself launched into space. and so in just a few minutes, the crew should be going to the launchpad. you can see the "new shepard" rocket right there. en & and

we are in west texas. >> bill: we want to bring in first female commander of a space capsule. as. wanted an invite for the liftoff and didn't get it. she said she'll get as close as she can. what does this mean today? >> well, it means a lot to me. i was a big fan of star trek when i was in third or 4th grade. it's pretty cool to see william shatner walk up all of those stairs at age 90. he is in tremendous shape to be able to do that. it's good to see space flight expand out into civilian flights. this needs to happen if we are going to expand into space. we have to get more people up there and get more experience and bring the cost down. >> dana: what kind of scientific conclusions do we come up? what does that lead to back here on earth? >> there is a lot to learn on the international space station. we did 250 different experiments. there is an experiment looking to see what the universe it made of. lots of science. on the space tourist flights the benefit is they help companies like blue origin, they give them revenue and get their engineers working on projects. these missi

getting news that all four of the astronauts who are onboard that capsule that just relanded in the west texas desert, that they have given the thumbs up and all doing well after their almost 11-minute journey to the edge of space and to your point, carl, i mean, after the last flight which was a historic flight in and of itself the one that founder jeff bezos was on board for. when i spoke to bezos after that trip he did say, quote/unquote, a tiny step of what blue origin is going to do and what they're really trying to do is build reusable space vehicles and that is the only way to build a road to space so, this is the first commercial business for blue origin, but only the first and so we want to stay with our guests, as well, who are astronauts themselves and made their own journeys to space as we do, await the next steps with the crew actually being able to exit this capsule in the west texas desert right now and, mike, i'll go to you first just in terms of what that must feel like for these latest now astronauts to have made this journey having done it yourself and what it does to your,

let's look at a 5-5 and a chart of west texas, -- let's look at a five-day chart, west texas, holding $82 intraday. looking at brent crude also holding higher, and many say it is on target to hit $85 imminently. but the real issue here is whether the crunch will force many natural gas and other generators to switch over to oil . that is adding demand that was not even anticipated a short time ago. let's jump into the bloomberg and look at coal. that underscores the never before seen prices we are seeing. we also have rain with flooding in a key area of china, and that is just adding to the energy shortage and the energy concerns. lastly, look at the aluminum price, which sophie mentioned, and you can see how that is continue to skyrocket, further adding to inflation concerns and just wrapping up how commodities are the big driver here. haidi: some banks and analysts, where do they think it will go from here? su: higher and higher, $90 being the next up, citigroup raising price outlooks from $85 to $90 for west texas intermediate. a big jump from the height of the pandemic. one year ag

let's go to the big picture for west texas intermediate. and when it comes to brent, seeing $90 at various times during the winter. a lot of this having to do with the sudden pressure we're getting in addition to everything else from this asia and european energy crisis. layer on the fact that we've got gasoline prices at the pump here in the u.s. at a seven-year high. that increases the political pressure, perhaps in the biden administration, and again, there's an expectation that opec which has been sticking to its plan to only gradually increase output will be pressured from the u.s. to boost that a bit to alleviate concerns. there's also an option of releasing the reserves that the u.s. has to also put more oil on the market. back to you. shery: yeah. and those inflation concerns have affected trading today. what was really interesting to me watching the markets was how the golden naz china dragon index wasn't that much affected. in fact, if it wasn't for the last half-hour of trading, we would have been solidly in the green for a fifth

the nation's eyes were glued on what was happening in the desert of west texas. h texas rangers. looking for not only a teenage girl who might be in danger but also evidence of other underage brides. and there was one more place to look. >> there was a sister building to the temple and it was referred to as the temple annex. inside there was a vault. >> reporter: this time, a battering ram wasn't enough. >> so we jackhammered through the wall to open the vault from the inside. >> reporter: rebecca and the rangers entered and immediately they knew they had hit the mother lode. >> they had just tons. i mean, 400 boxes of physical papers, plus all of the digital information, and it was all of these records. >> we found church records, family records and probably the most important thing was the priesthood records which are the dictations of warren jeffs. his locations, his movements, his directions. really it was a road map to all the activities of the flds community. >> reporter: every dictation, every record, every file had to be scrutinized page by page. >> walkin

but look at the market reaction where we saw -- west texas intermediate and brent quickly shoot up to seven-year highs. and analysts such as citi's ed moore said they expect twice as much in terms of output for november. certainly they believe that many analysts share the view again, let's look at west texas intermediate. you can see it shooting up briefly to $78 intraday. brent was back above $80 after being at odd 80 early last -- a. and brent, odd 90 by the end of the year and banc of america saying we could see $120 oil if it's a very cold winter. and then dropping into the bloomberg commodities, now hitting an all-time record, we've got 23 energy, metal and crop futures in this bloomberg commodities. it's at the highest we've seen since 2011. surged more than 90% since reaching a four-year low in march of last year. and then into the bloomberg again to look at just west texas intermediate, widely used here in the u.s., it dropped below zero at the height of the pandemic. it has come back in a big way. now joining so many other energy commodities such as natural gas to really crea

i mean, think of where we were, a couple months ago, the seven- year high, west texas intermediate isy on the move, overseas brent crude which went as high as $85 a barrel, still up about i want to say 1.5% to 83.59 you can see west texas has moderated just a bit at $80.48 but if you stretch it out west texas intermediate sprinted higher for seven straight week, brent which trades overseas gained each of the past five weeks but natural gas, take a look right now. yes it is retreating today but if you look at kolk, kold is that exchange traded fund that is bearish, and today, we do have natural gas pulling back, because its been on such a run. it has surged recently to levels not seen since 2014 but this very bearish etf today and it's just a trade, folks, is moving higher by 6% i believe it's ultra short meaning each moment that natural gas goes down, you start to see this index pop, this etf, so it's a very big move but probably short diabetes lived at the moment because we no one thing. high heating bills come winter are very much likely because we have a shortage, we've got a suppl

so let's take a further look at those oil prices, which stayed at 7 year highs on monday with west texas intermediate surpassing $81.00 a barrel. it's the latest in the series of skyrocketing energy prices that are now causing concern about how they can impact the state of the global economic recovery . so turning is not the scholars unless co host, christy i, and ad moyer, senior market analysts at atlanta. it's great to have you both on the show today. now add, let's start with you. what do you make of the latest surgeon oil prices? and what will it mean for those who were turning to oil as a source of fuel to get away from skyrocketing coal and gas prices? well, right now, we are seeing the global energy crisis. i think we've been very fortunate this week . it seems that we've had some milder weather's, etc, some of the pressure with natural gas prices. but right now, the oil market is heavily in deficit, and you're still seeing opec plus and the u. s. production levels are not really ramping up. and that's really, really, i think this was widening deficit that were seen. and right no

for west texas intermediate hit three year highs. hit 80 for the first time since 2018, only last week. there are fresh signs that the increase in oil is becoming a political issue. if you look at the big picture oil charts, you can really see why. the order from beijing last week for state owned oil companies to secure energy supplies at all costs and for the white house to discuss the rally really shows why this is a front burner issue. >> we continue to see bullish productions for $100 of oil for gas prices as well. su: let's jump into the bloomberg to see the natural gas spike because that is getting intention not just here in the u.s. -- attention not just here in the u.s. but elsewhere. the crisis in asia and europe is the equivalent of the oil shock of oil being at 100 $90. jp morgan mentioned this morning that the worsening natural gas crisis in europe. your today increases so you get an idea of how energy prices have spiked that this will spur so many power generators to switch to petroleum-based fuels that crude will reach

they've had increditingly high winds in west texas.liam shatner and the rest of his crew are waiting one more day to reach their final frontier. high winds in west texas delayed the launch of the jeff bezos blue origin spaceship originally scheduled for tomorrow and now wednesday. that hasn't dimmed the crew's excitement. over the weekend, shatner arrived at the village in west texas. as one of the most storied commanders of the galaxy, it seems hard to believe captain james t. kirk has never left planet earth. on wednesday, that changes. he joins three other crew members for a trip quick to zero g. he talked to him and his fellow travelers earlier this morning. 75 miles per hour winds through west texas. how does that make you feel about a rocket ride to the edge of space? >> the 75 miles per hour winds is like overwhelming. that's close to hurricane. i don't want to be on a rocket on top of a rocket in 75 miles per hour winds. and neither does anybody else, so we can -- they have cancelled the flight. it was supposed to go up tomorro

west texas intermediate futures rose 2.7% to the highest level in seven years.uth about 30% since mid august. the global power crunch is boosting demand for oil ahead of winter. now the power crisis is also squeezing aluminum. the price jumped to the highest levels since 2008. industry insiders joked that aluminum is basically solid electricity. each ton of the metal takes about 14 megawatt hours to produce. that is enough to run an average british home for more than three years. merck seeking emergency use authorization for a pill to treat coronavirus. that brings the drug pusher to becoming the first oral antiviral treatment for the disease. studies founded cut the risk of hospitalization by about half. merck makes the pill with its partner. factories are running out of workers to supply companies such as nike for the holiday season. the epicenter of vietnam's worst coronavirus outbreak, and response, factories are boosting pay. vietnam is the second largest supplier of clothes and shoes to the u.s. global news 24 hours a day, on air and on bloomberg quicktake

west texas intermediate is higher.ot of people calling for brent which is what the world uses to go to $100. i have to be honest it is hard to see wti slowing down anytime soon. this area, key support back in 2011 or 2012, the chart suggests a breakout from here and west texas intermediate can go to $107. that is a whole lot that will have big impact on economies around the world. the will the governments step in? we have energy specialist tracy shugart. tracy, what can be done? any government you're in, china america, communism, capitalism, doesn't matter, when energy prices go through the roof they are under a lot of pressure. do you see intervention from a governmental point of view now? >> i mean honestly this will be really hard to tame right now. you have nat-gas crunch, you have a coal crunch. this is in fact bringing up oil because their prices far superseded oil prices. we'll see gas to oil, coal to oil switching. opec has drained much of their spare capacity. shale drillers are not key wrapping up production.

bill, 70-mile-an-hour winds coming through west texas. ride into space? >> 70 miles an hour is close to overwhelming. that's almost a hurricane. i don't want to be on top of a rocket in 75-mile-an-hour winds, and neither does anybody else. so we have -- they have -- canceled the flight. it was supposed to go up tomorrow morning. it's now scheduled to go up on wednesday morning, and we've got our fingers crossed, because everybody has things to do on earth, like talk to you. >> reporter: captain kirk wants to get back down here on terra firma. interesting, he makes a point that his life is coming full circle. 55 years ago he was a struggling actor, really down on his luck. didn't have any money, wasn't able to pay the bills, and one day he was looking up at the stars and he was thinking about the astronauts who were up there and he really wasn't having any luck, and within a week, they called and offered him the job of captain kirk. now after 55 years, he is going into space. he said at the age of 90, his life is going full circle. amazing

new highs today above $80 again from west texas. they have not been there since 2014, and that keeps energy as a pretty buoyant group across the markets and helping out, and our jobs helping, as well. that yield is notable. we saw that pop after wage inflation today, so we see recalibrating slightly on where folks think along and should be. or what it is worth, we have dual link job reports today and we have seen a big jump in jobs to recover the 3 million jobs lost to covid, adding jobs in september. that does not quite recapture all the jobs in the sense that some of the jobs lost were still gone, and we should have created about half a million more jobs if there had never been a pandemic do just economic growth and immigration. however, it is better news that we might have expected, and that chart paints a picture. are we back to the starting point to where we were with this pandemic began? alix: it could always be better, but here in the u.s., we have unique problems that are developing, and one of those in particular is labor f

sophie long, bbc news, west texas. that's all for now. hello.rning for one or two, particularly across some southern counties of england and south wales, as well as the far north east of scotland. it's these areas where you'll have the clearest of the skies to begin with. in between, temperatures much higher than they were on monday, and that's because of this weather front and the cloud from it stretching across scotland into eastern england. and that's going to be inching a little bit further westwards as we go through tuesday. high pressure still, though, in the far west, keeping things dry. only an isolated shower possible, still some sunny spells. but a lot of cloud across scotland and central, northern and eastern england. that could produce some light rain or drizzle here and there, maybe as far west as the home counties as we go through into the afternoon. to the west of it, we'll keep temperatures on the high side for this stage in october, maybe up to around 16—17 degrees. but notice down these eastern coasts of scotland and north east
