finally this week, a rare but natural phenomenon had people flocking to a river in the small city of westbrookmaine. they wanted a glimpse of this massive ice disk. you can see from above that its shape is a near-perfect circle. kind of like an arctic crop circle. scientists say the ice disk is formed as the slow-moving river's currents freeze. it gets that rounded edge as the ice hits the rocks and water. ice disks happen once or twice a year in the u.s. and are normally in the 20 to 30-foot range. but this ice disk is about 300 feet across. people got close enough to the edge to grab some pictures and in this age of social media, it's not surprising that the unusual sight sparked speculation that the ice disk is literally out of this world. but there haven't been any rt we'll see you next week.
