emily: what is next for tim westergren?: i really want to get back to composing, which is my real passion. i would like to see pandora as a platform, to have a positive social impact. emily: where will pandora be in 10 years? tim: it will be global, for one. and it will have billions of people on it. it will also change what it means to be a musician. i remember in my 30's thinking, i feel so much pressure to quit music and go get a job, because i wasn't making enough money. i know a lot of musicians who went through that. the vast majority do. that's a huge loss for society. artists don't get to keep making their art. it's true of all forms of art. what if music was a much more stable career, then maybe tens of thousands of musicians could make a living at it, not just a few hundred. maybe it would literally change the place of music in culture. that's what i think we can effect. emily: we will check back with you in a decade. tim: sounds good. emily: tim westergren, thank you so much for joining us. great to have you. tha

emily: you can watch my entire interview with tim westergren.regulators check in charge for every app upgrade? what we are learning in the company's earnings report next. ♪ emily: that the taxi wars continue, this year in new york. the city wants to have three new rules which stop drivers from canceling trip, reorganize uber in such a way that they could get potentially shut down if they break the law. uber operates as six different entitites. the city needs to approve app upgrades before they go through and will charge a thousand dollars every time. tech companies have spoken out against this last rule. in a new letter sent to bill de blasio and it was signed by facebook, yelp. they said this will stifle innovation and the progress it brought to new york city. this is why the entire internet has come together to protest the rules. internet company should not have to ask the government for permission to innovate. the rules were debated at a public hearing today. so, what happens next? joining me is there a former chair and commissioner of the ne

tim westergren sat down with emily chang on studio 1.0.: i think there will always be people who want to buy music. want to listen to music without advertising and are willing to subsidize that. i think there will be a larger audience that will pay to transact with an artist to whom they feel connected. stephanie: you can see at more of -- you can see more bloomberg's interview tonight at 7:30 eastern. people are hemming and hauling saying this service is number nine. there are something like 100 services. we are just focused on these big ones. one of the reasons we should take pause and say maybe the service makes sense, they are trying to represent the artist. at this point, young people are not used to pay for music. we used to go to record stores, maybe not record stores. pimm: there was a sale -- a record sale of vinyl records. their opening a new vinyl record pressing plant in tennessee this year. stephanie: these artists need to get paid more money. what is happening with spotify, many say is going to break. tell us what did not lik
