just a beautiful morning here with thunderstorms that have been going in western colorado. we've seen thunder going between cortez, moving up toward silverton. very strong winds in the 40 to 50-mile per hour range on the western slope in some of the storms. we could see these storms reforming over the plains this afternoon and this evening. especially after 5:00 p.m. from fort morgan to last chance and throughout the eastern plains. very strong wind possible. so we do have a risk for severe weather from the plains into the panhandle of nebraska late in the day. here. it's calm now, by late this afternoon, 20 to 40-mile per hour winds from the front range to the north and east of us. and humidity levels will dive. as they do, that creates a really rough fire situation for us today. so, any fires that get started can react explosively. so grass fires can just take off in an instant from the denver area to the south. a red flag warning for extreme fire danger today. noon until 8:00. we'll be touching near 80 degrees today we'll take a look at what the weekend looks like. >> tha

warmest temperatures in western colorado near # 0 degrees, for many mountain locations 60s and low 70s, similar to what we're going to see right here in eastern partly sunny by mid-day and a round of afternoon evening storms should begin to taper off shortly after sunset later tonight. it will stay cloudy and foggy overnight into tomorrow though i think we clear up earlier tomorrow which allows us into the mid-70s. i like our chances for storms tomorrow. they pick back up friday before the weekend warms up and appears to dry out. wet spots on the roads especially if you're up around boulder you need to watch out for that. other parts of town look very good. this is the north end of town as you're coming down from 104th along i-25. a little bit more volume out there but no major delays in fact those drive times on that north stretch from e 470 to southbound i-25 about 13 minutes with speeds averaging around 59 miles per hour. that being said i am seeing what looks to the major highways it's on 52nd though at sheridan. no major slow-downs in the area but we could see those build up. so w

very quiet for western colorado which is why we had high fire dangers and have had them for the last couple days. still strong thunderstorms moving through southeastern colorado. some severe thunderstorm warnings haveebeen issued. effect for high fire danger extending to the next couple % hours. been much better as the cold front moves through the state. we have seen a few little light sprinkles otherwise very quiet here in denver. stronger storms to the east. further south towards colorado springs. it is these storms towards the junta -- bench county severe thunderstorm until 5:30. this is what we were expecting this is where our risk area was. in through late tonight we will still have cool air in place tonight. fog from denver trailing across akron. satellite radar picture. we are keeping a very close eye on hurricane newton way down here into mexico but all this moisture coming into arizona and mexico we are expecting a will stay out of colorado for the most part. we have factors in place that will keep that moisture further to the south. moisture from the remnants of - newton as
