it was were so many of the orders came from the wreak havoc in western missouri. so they come into lord. they hold that down for four hours. it is effectively destroyed, 150-200 men and boys are killed. they could've killed every man woman and child in town to they had that much control over it. but the town was effectively destroyed. there was a cloud of smoke that could be seen for 38 counties. it was as if an atomic bomb had gone off. that resulted in order number 11 which pretty much decimated western missouri and sent 20, 25,000 people off their land and made them homeless. so it was it was horrific. the matter what side you on it was a horrific time. when the civil war finally came to the rest of the nation, kansas have had of course the futures of the head start. there were a couple of very notable contributions kansas makes to the war effort. one is that per capita we send more soldiers to the war than any other state. number two is the first kansas colored are actually raised the first black regiment to fight in the civil war. their service is remarkable

missouri. let me give you a closer look. we have a tornado watch in effect for this area where we have that severe line of thunderstorms reaching into western oklahoma into arkansas into the south wherein corner of missouri and a new outbreak of storms in the texas panhandle right now and in eastern new mexico. we're watching these storms right now as they intensify in eastern new mexico. they're pushing directly toward the texas panhandle. things are relatively calm now across texas but we do expect another outbreak of storms in the northern and central parts of the state during the overnight and early morning hours, by mid fight tomorrow we'll see another round of potentially violent storms in the extreme southwestern part of the state. of course our heart goes out to everyone affected by these storms in texas and oklahoma. we would like to see some of that rainfall. our meteorologist shows us the possible bay area connection. >> and what's happening in texas may give us a clue to our weather here over the next year. so we look into the pacific, see what's going on with the ocean waters, and they are certainly very warm for this time of t

that was from order number 11 that pretty much decimated western missouri and put 25,000 people off of their land. it was horrific no matter what side you were on. was terrific. when the civil war finally came to the rest of the nation kansas had a head start. there were some notable contributions that they make to the war effort but per-capita we send more soldiers than any of their state and we actually raised the first black regiment to fight in this civil war. their service is remarkable on so many counts. they fight to be for the "emancipation proclamation" is issued with the promise of nothing. nothing. they're not fighting with the promise of their freedom , they are not fighting with the promise of even being paid. nothing. except hope. following the civil war it is interesting to note there were survivors in reunions for many years. of perpetrators also had reunions on the of the azeri side and that is just one day example of how the feelings did not die when the war was over. there is still a lot of animosity now it plays out on the sports events painfully but that has died h
