the snow came across parts of western new york like buffalo.were buried, and that's what you deal with when you get this cold arctic air coming over the waters of the great lakes. it is starting to wind down a little bit, but this is just in a time for the next storm that is approaching. this is the area seeing the lake-effect snow in western new york. these wind chills are down well below zero in chicago. another cold day expected in the mid-atlantic states philadelphia all the way up through boston. the radar plus the clouds showing it is all quiet except for the lake-effect snow. but the midwest we'll see a storm developing. the storm track is critical here. this is -- storm seen hereover the midwest, but look at this kink, these are lines of equal pressure. a storm redevelops as this all moves east. very tricky to forecast, and the times looking to be oversight saturday to sunday as the storm develops it keeps the cold air in place. this is saturday night, and you are getting rain as you move up the cold air. a mix of snow, sleet, freezing

we have the big ice storm and snow from oklahoma city to dallas all the way up into areas of western new yorkwe had dangerous windchills all through the northern plains and a new winter storm that's going to move into california today which that one by the way could even bring snow to areas like philadelphia, d.c., new york, and washington, d.c. on sunday. not a significant event, but still, that's the next one in the wings. as far as the worst right now, overnight the icing has been really bad in arkansas and it tennessee where the trees are coming down this hour, roads closed, schools closed. snow in southern portions of missouri. snowing pretty good in oklahoma city at 19 degrees. it is bitterly cold on the back side of the storm. dallas has had an inch of sleet overnight. they didn't get a lot of freezing rain so that's good for them. sleet is better than dealing with the freezing rain that coats everything. notice how far this extends. schools canceled in indianapolis where it snowed three inches last night and ohio has gotten snow around columbus and now it's snowing in areas of western

this will continue in western new york.he temperatures are certainly cold with that fresh coating of snow on the ground, now the storms gone. here is the lake-effect snow. the storms coming in and we won't get a repeat of what we've had here over the last few days. what we will see changed is not the future weather outlook. there are no storms coming in, just lake affect snow. when you look at temperatures. these are the warm air, the highs friday, saturday, and sunday look at how that warmest goes right up the east coast with temperatures go up to the 50s and 60s easily. with the storms here over the midwest and we could see the threat of severe weather both saturday and sunday across the southeast. what does that warmth mean for temperatures in new york? it goes from 44 to 59 up to 55 and 65. there are some numbers predicted but it's not going to make $600 million. >> we were watching the door to see who would come in. obviously you didn't win. >> meteorologist: no, still here. >> oh there were two lucky winners of the lo

some other problems in western new york state. maine all the way to florida and between washington all the way to chicago and the midwest, st. louis, minneapolis, st. paul. much of the inner mountain west. if you're heading to denver, no travel problems there. a few snow showers northern wyoming to montana. the dakotas. along the west coast from california up to seattle should not be having any travel problems there. here we are off to a cold start though. a big change from yesterday. we've dropped about 30 degrees since yesterday morning. we're down to just around 30 degrees now and the winds are gusting around 15 miles an hour. so it feels even colder than that. the wind chills are down into the 20s and will stay that way through much of the day even though temperatures climbing into the low 40s. we'll have winds increasing. chance of some scattered snow showers and flurries mid to late afternoon. then we clear out tonight and get cold tomorrow. tomorrow morning low 20s on christmas day highs just mid 30s. bright sunshine. light

track south of the great lakes and this area of low-pressure is moving along and pushing through western new yorkennsylvania. there is some light snow there. the next storm is approaching across the northern plains. eventually we'll see a big storm develop to our south. just some light snow over the next 24 hours, but not until after the new year, thursday and friday a large storm develops. a large storm develops off of the coast of north carolina in between here, there is some dry air. by the time this really intensifies and starts to pull in a lot of moisture into the cold air, we could see some significant snowfall. timing this and showing where that line of heavy snow is is going to be difficult, but no question some areas across the northeast will see significant snowfall over a foot at least between thursday and friday. you can see how this dark blue area coming in from the coast, even a little farther south there in new jersey could see a bit more snow, but this could be closer to 20 inches of snow as this moisture comes into the very cold air. we'll see how this storm develops. >> dave th

here is this mix happening and the snow developing where its cold enough, western new york and north central new york, all the way up through new england but not along the coast. now, the storm really intensefies by about 11:00 o'clock tonight, a large area of heavy snow here through maine and new hampshire but that rain going all the way up through massachusetts and into right along the coast there of maine. so the heaviest snow looks to be inland and the timing of that will be overnight tonight. by monday, the storm's gone. then we are talking about the bitter cold air and that's going over areas that do not have power across the northeast in toronto and up to eastern canada. power still not restored. another blast of cold air is not the best move there. >>> by tuesday, the bitter cold artic air, maine, a record high. today, a big drop in temperatures, about a 40 degree temperature drop heavy snow. here along maine, new hampshire and all the way into canada. south of that, it's all rain. not cold enough to see the snow line drop further south. that could be about a foot of snow. 40

light snow coming down, additional amounts east of the great lakes in western new york, so not quite done with the lake affect snow. the temperatures into the teens and 20s, so the cold air is in place. the radar, not showing where the storm will be developing. it's not happening yet. but a day or two left of dry weather. but the computer forecast, saturday morning, an area of snow developing in pennsylvania and new jersey and upper new england where the cold air is in place. as the storm intensifies, it will change over from snow to rain in baltimore, and this will be by saturday evening. with the cold air still in place, you get the rainfall and the cold air, so there could be sleet and freezing rain to the west of i-95. this is saturday night to sunday as the storm is intensifying and peaking over saturday night to sunday along the east coast. by sunday afternoon, it's gone, leaving behind it, very cold air. here's the cold air held in place. you get the rain falling into that, a mix of sleet and freezing rain. this would be saturday to sunday. and snow changing to rain around phi

but in western new york, just east of those great lakes as you get that cold air coming over the warmer area. this has the most snow, and we will continue to see that today. but then things will calm down for a bit. this cold air is now pushing east in north and south dakota. detroit, nine is the wind chill there. so you can see that cold air the cold air will be in place as another storm developed and brings in more moisture to the mid at lan tick states of the northeast. that means another round of winter weather. quiet on the radar, plus the clouds out west, midwest nothing, but you go to the computer forecast this saturday, here is how the storm will develop, it will bring a period of snow, saturday morning, this will start to accumulate, it will start as snow from boston or baltimore all the way up to boston. and rain, but what is complicating is this is the storm will redevelop off the coast. the area of low pressure moves east, and where that happens really depends on which area you see the most snow, freezing rain or rain. the initial storm will be there, saturday evening, so be

you may be driving through some of that, also some in western new york state. pattern across most of the nation, just a little batch of snow may be moving out of the dakotas into minnesota with about 1 to 3 inches of snow there. elsewhere, all dry throughout the mountains and on the west coast, here, from california up to washington state. it's a dry pattern. so really no -- not any weather problems traveling, flying or driving much of the country, afternoon highs reaching low to mid-40s around the metro area, but these northwest winds gusting 10 to 25 miles an hour will make it feel colder. we'll have a lot of clouds around and just a slight chance, maybe a 30% chance of a scattered flurry or maybe a brief passing snow shower. that's going to be midafternoon. look at the windchills by 3:00, windchills will just be in the low to mid-30s even though temperatures may be in the low to mid-40s. the windchills continue to drop by 6:00. they'll be down into the 20s. that's what it will feel like with those winds and maybe gusting as much as maybe 30 miles an hour lat
