jonathan oh is standing by with the latest update with a storm moving through the western pacific. >> right now it's continuing to move toward the north toward the okinawan islands. and it is expected to also brush by portions of taiwan in the southeastern portions of taiwan. something to look at closely. now, what was meranti has become a low pressure system. but it has still left a lot of problems as it has passed through the area. let me show you some video from fujian province. an 800-year-old structure was seriously damage bid the waters. about 2.6 million households suffered blackouts as of midday thursday. the trees are lying all over the roadway because of the powerful winds. that's causing traffic problems. more than 1,000 soldiers and 700 militiamen did the cleanup throughout the city. strongest hitting the province since local meteorological agencies started to keep records back in 1949. so the system is now weakened into just a standard low pressure system. but it is interacting with a stationary front. and so that means more enhanced rainfall for areas north of shanghai a

yes, w we are dedefinitely seei bit of an active western pacific forecast in terms of having these storms popping up. we did have three named storms earlier in the day. now we're down to two. but both of these have thehe potential to really cause issues on land. so we'll be taking a look at this. let's start with meranti. this is a violent typhoon. it's got a lot of strength with it. you may notice on these frames that the clarity of the eye. now, a lot of times strong storms we can see it on the visible satellite. but when we can see it on the infrared perspective, that is really gaining intensity. and this storm is at 900 hectare pascals. it's gusting up to 306 kilometers per hour. even though the center track at least where it looks like it's going may be between two islands like luzouzon and taiaiwan. ththe northeastern quadrant is expected to go through taiwanan. aa lot of rainfall especially near the islands. some areas could see 300 millimeters in just six hours as this system brushes through. now, there is the fact i have to point out that the eastern coast of taiwan not as popula

. >> this is our latest tropical storm, the 13th name stormed of the season out here in the western pacific. you can see it down here towards the south, actually quite barely on the satellite picture, it's really wrapped up with this entire front, which is stretching across most of japan and already this has us bringing more weather. on tuesday we had a wind gust of 112 kilometers per hour, 214 millimeters of rainfall. that front has already been impacting these areas so you have already seen the showers s even in tokyo, looking at rainfall, not directly from the troem tropical storm, but the tropical storm is going to follow along and towards the path of least resistance and that's that front. we have some went reports across this area, really kind of justify that, and as it does continue to track off towards the northeast, it's going to be just kind of scurrying along the coastline, through the overnight hours and also past the key peninsula. as that happens you're going to look at this rainfall ever increasing, even into kyoto and nagasaki, you're going to see as much as 200 millimeters

there are several storms churning in the western pacific.he region at this time of year but they're causing concern. will be better spe >> definitely with our stronger of these three storms we have out there, this is definitely quite concerning. this is a very violent typhoon moranti. we have rai back here toward the west bringing a flood threat into vee nam, over towards laos and cambodia. malakas, eventually that's going to be impacting japan. i'll get to those in second. let's first talk about this storm system. take a look at the visible satellite imagery. this is right at sunrise. so you can kind of see the shadowing as the sun comes up over the horizon. satellite getting a good glimpse of that eye wall where we have winds in excess of 300 kilometers per hour. seeing a little bit of a degrading along the northern periphery of this. so it does look like this has reached its max intensity. but object but even if we do see slight weakening, going down from 900 to 910, a violent typhoon moving over the luzon strait. the northern periphery y

this is way out in the western pacific. this is typhoon maronte. the new update. winds up to 185 sustained with gusts up to 220. this will weaken the next couple of days. it's tough for a typhoon or hurricane to stay at this intense sfe for long. as it approaches taiwan, which is here, it's predicted to be china, so this will make headlines the next couple of days. super typhoon maronte. for us we have a tropical wave. we don't have anything like that to deal with. just increases the shower and thundershower coverage tomorrow. it will decrease tomorrow night. then additional showers and thundershowers are likely on wednesday. kind of a wet setup for us as our rainy season slowly begins to wind down. patchy clouds overnight. we stay rain-free and it won't take much to make it rain tomorrow. a lot of moisture and instability, so showers and thundershowers developing back up to 87. even wednesday looks so so. showers and storms around and we're in the upper 80s. one nice thing about the seven-day and it could be wrong is that on every one of my days, temperatures bel
