we are going to go over to london to say hello to our good friend, ross westgate, who is standing by. ross, good morning. >> good morning to you. >> not a good way to start the morning. >> nice to see you. we are on the downside at the moment. decliners outpacing advancers by a ratio of nearly 9 to 1. we hit the session low around about five minutes or so ago. the if it is fwts yesterday was down some 15 points a little more in terms of losses right now. the ftse 100 has been down around three quarters, nearly 0.8% at the moment. the xetra dax is off 0.6%. the cac 40 is currently down 0.2% and the ftse mib currently down 0.3%. utilities, it doesn't get much more definitive than that, the only sector up. the reason autos are down, peugeot citron, amongst the blue chips, off nearly 10% at the moment. the french carmaker has cut its 2018 savings goal from its joint program with general motors and it's talking about a capital increase, as well. all things that are unnerved investors this morning. it did confirm on the plus side it's in talks with china's dongfeng, but no agreement has bee

ross westgate is standing by in london. good morning to you, ross. >> good morning to you, andrew. we are on the last trading day, of course, of the year here. and only half the markets are trading today. a number of them closed yesterday. already, the german, the swiss, the irish, the greek markets aren't trading this morning. we have a shortened trading session today, as well. london closing up around 12:30 local time. right now, advancers outpacing decliners 12 to 4. volumes are very, very light. the ftse 100 up around 15% over the course of the year. today, up 23 points. the cac 40 is currently up 0.3% and the ibex is fairly flat. let's show you where we have gone through the course of the year. the ftse has been an underperformer. the reason for that is because basic resources, many of which are listed in london have been underperforming. theat that's the worst sector over the course of the year. one of the best performers has been the german market. the xetra dax up 25%. autos have been the best performer over the course of the year, up some 38%. tech and media doing fairly w

we're going to head over to london to see our good friend, ross westgate, who is standing by. ross. >> good morning, andrew. good to see you. after the gains yesterday, a little softer today for european equity markets. decliners outpacing advancers by around about six to three. the ftse yesterday was up some 82 points after being down the previous week. so today we're down 23 points. not big losses, just down 0.3% at the moment. along with the xetra dax. we had the latest print of inflation today out of the uk. came in weaker. the annual rate of cpi, 2.1%. but inflation hasn't been a real issue with the bank of england. the economy is doing better. they have revised up their growth forecast as we know. and there is a sense that the market doesn't necessarily believe their forward guidance at the moment. but still, not too bad. it may take some pressure over household incomes that have been strapped a little bit on the cost of living crisis. the cac 40 is do you know 0.8%. the ftse mib is currently off 0.3%. let's break that down into sectors for you. yesterday, there were no

again, ross westgate, we'll check in with you tomorrow. >>> retail, another holiday kickoff, it's come and gone. how did the retailers do. joining us is dana telsey. the reports that i've seen suggest this wasn't really a build. sales were actually down over the weekend. it makes you wonder if opening earlier on thursday is worth it for all of the big retail companies? >> it definitely seemed as if sales on thursday pulled from friday. even a little bit from over the weeken weekend. overall when speaking to retailers, low single digits is where the game was. >> so what does this mean? was this a mistake for them to open early like this? was this simply an issue that the retailers started talking about the holiday sales as early as november 1st i think in walmart's case? what happened here? >> i think that you basically had the promotions and all the advertising for it starting way before this thursday or friday of thanksgiving and black friday. you had many deals begin on monday and tuesday, and the consumer got washed out as they went through the weekend. i think you still have 40% of

ross westgate is standing by in london. good morning. >> good morning to you, becky.ood morning, everybody. we are a little bit further as we go to the first trading session of the week here in europe. last week the ftse 100 was down 1.7%. investors are currently outpacing decliners. the ftse, the numbers are up half of 1%. xetra dax is up 1%. we had eurozone pmis out today. they were a tick up to 51.7 in november. again, sharp divergence between germany and france new manufacturing numbers paring through the german business activity. french composite pmiss on a seven month low. 47 in december. they were 48 in november. france looks like it could well be in recession. they had a negative third quarter. big divergence and big problem for the ecb. ftse up 1.4% this morning. a big focus on moncler jackets. if you are a big skier, they have the big, puff ji jackets. soaring on its debut this morning. the stocks soaring up 40%. trading for the first time in milan. shares said to be 27% times oversubscribed. they've had a bit of a party in milan as a result. staying in ital

our good friend ross westgate standing by in london with a mix of red and green behind him for the holiday season. >> that's right. a very good morning to you, andrew. and we have been -- in the session. we're about up to the session highs where we wandered down to the flat line here. around about 5 to 5, just about advancers and decliners on the dow jones stoxx 600. the ftse was down about 62 points. up 13 at the moment. we have bounced off the low which we hit around half an hour or so ago. the xetra dax is up 0.25%. the cac 40 is up about 0.3%. the ftse mib is up 0.3% today. peugeot citron has been feeling the heat this week. it's down another 9% today. it was off nearly 9% yesterday. it's down in the last four trading sessions something like 23%. today, the reaction is because u.s. alliance partner general motors sold its stake ahead of a possible new share issue by the struggling french carmaker. the french government says it's not sure whether it's going to buy into peugeot citron or not. but a poor week for investors in the french carmaker. and bitcoin is back in focus yet again. th
