stephanie coueignoux is live at weston tolls. this is a big day. the first full day with this new system. >> reporter: you know, i have to stay that i started to see drivers slow down, kind of look around as lanes right here behind me. it has started to sprinkle, thankfully not too hard. so the drivers aren't seeing any weather delays. but you can see they're going through and no longer can take cash here on the turnpike. of course crews started this process last night by covering up some of the toll signs with some black cloth. again, that happened at around 10:00 last night. so this really will be the first how drivers deal with this new and potentially confusing system. again, you can no longer pay cash as you go through the tolls. instead, you're going to have to have an easy pass. if you don't have one of these transponders already. mass. d.o.t., they're going to send you a bill for the same amount. this is a major change for drivers who may not be aware of this new change but also a new change for tollbooth employees. yesterday was their full

take a look at the toll plaza here at the weston tolls. this is the last time that it will look like this in a matter of hours. the major changes get underway. here's what you need to know right now. at 10:00, open tolling takes effect, that means no more cash on the mass pike, and the toll plaza demolition begins, the new so what does that mean for all of the drivers out there? well, for the next few weeks while the toll plazas are dismantled you still have to drive around that work zone, so traffic will first be funneled to the sides of the plazas, and then later on through the middle meaning that you have to slow down and stay in your lane, in other words, you want to plan for delays. there are also some price changes you need to know about, from 84 to boston, it will cost you $3.60 with a massachusetts e-z pass from 495 to boston, $2.65, and from 95 to 128 to boston, it's $1.70. all these are higher if you don't have the e-z pass or one from another state. so you want to plan ahead. you want to give yourself extra time for that morning
