and eventually he marched over to westport in kansas city where there's a major battle. now, interestingly what happens is, instead of, because there's no central direction of those confederate guerrillas, they were creating chaos over the state giving him an opportunity to advance and seize important points while the union forces are split up dealing with all the guerrillas. since the groups do not have central direction, they respond to the invasion by going to his army. so what happens is he actually concentrates most of the confederate guerrilla, at least a lot of the leading groups, with his conventional army and a lot of the guerrilla leadership is wiped out in the conventional battles. it's the opposite of what he's done. there's no mosby here. no one is part of a confederate chain of command in the guerrilla movement. instead of taking the guerrilla war to another level, it ends up knocking it down a launch. in fact, at westport, he's badly defeated and has to retreat and it really knocks the wind out of the confederate guerrilla movement. one interesting side ef
