and sarah westwood. thank you both for being here. president has been hard to pin down when it comes to where he stands on immigration but the white house says it plans to raef its immigration plan tomorrow, both hard line conservatives and liberals have balked at that plan, at least from what we know of it so far. so what does the president need to say to get both of these groups on board? >> right now, there is actually nothing that president can say, except that if he were to change the numbers of the number of undocumented immigrants that he would give a pathway to citizenship to. right now 1.8 million undocumented immigrants are far too high for many of his base, as well as congressional republicans. you're looking at, obviously, a limitation to -- migration and that would end entirely. then $25 billion for the border wall is something that is actually probably a good thing for them. but if you're looking in this in terms of sports, donald trump winning the election is akin to going to the super bowl and with sarah westwood being

joining us now, white house correspondent sara westwood. great to have you with us this morning. so let's talk about all of this because after this the president told reporters that he were looking forward to sitting down with mueller, we've seen his team back pedal somewhat. what is the driving concern about a sit-down with mueller? what are you hearing? there are some reports that those close to the president are actually terrified of him sitting down with bob mueller. >> absolutely. people in and around the white house are very can confident that there's no underlying collusion mueller is going to find, but they're a lot less confident that nobody involved in the investigation has taken any kinds of actions that could constitute obstruction, particularly at the beginning of the investigation prosecute before everyone realized how serious this probe really was. so i think there's some concern that if president trump does sit down in front of robert mueller, that confidence that there's no collusion could cause him to potentially be reckless in that one-on-one interview format i

sara westwood is joining us now. sara, good morning to you. thanks for joining us. as we have reported earlier, senate republicans and the democrats have reached a deal to move forward. what will -- do we think we'll see a deal for daca before the march deadline and can we see congress move forward on daca without trump? >> it's hard to see democrats voting for the next continuing resolution, the deadline being february 8th, without having made substantial progress towards a daca deal. the question really is whether that deal will pick up any traction in the house. and, again, it's difficult to see speaker ryan taking up any immigration deal passed by the senate that doesn't have the explicit backing of president trump. they're not going to send trump a bill that he is not going to sign. so trump is a key player here in whether a daca deal gets done. >> sara, let me ask you quickly about the shutdown deadline which has now obviously been punted to february. are we likely to see both sides reach a spending deal over the course of the next three weeks? >> well, the qu
