sarah westwood joins me live at the white house with more. was this an intentional shift in strategy or was the president caught off guard. >> reporter: this does seem like a shift in tone from the president who just last week said that are shouldn't even be a mueller report and who has repeatedly gone after this investigation as a witch-hunt, as a other names. now he is calling for transparency and increasingly d the country on the edge of thei sources tell barr will send to capitol hill for executive privilege. perhaps they will try to shield some of the report. the white house's strategy is really going to depend on what is in that report. there will be some incentive to try to execute executive privilege. there is mixed emotions here in the white house as we prepare for the potential coming of the mueller report. there are some aides who have a little bit of dread and fear because what is in the report is so unknown. but there is also a sense of relief among aides that perhaps a two-year legal ordeal could soon be over. folks really just

. >> near the president's resort in mar-a-lago, florida, we have sarah westwood to talk about that and more. good morning to you, sarah. >> reporter: good morning. president trump clearly fixated on the situation down at the border as he spends his weekend here in west palm beach. he is once again threatening to close down the border between the u.s. and mexico all or part of it if he doesn't get cooperation for mexico to do more to stop the flow of undocumented immigrants over the southern border. it's not the first time he has threatened to do so but the first time he is attaching a deadline to it. he is saying he'll close the border by next week if he doesn't get more results from mexico. here is what he wrote yesterday. what is really causing the strain is uninspected families over the border at their facility were not designed to handle this type of immigration flow. they say the status quo is unacceptable and cbp is calling for congressional action. that's a message that trump echoed yesterday when he wrote, it would be so easy to fix and very stupid democrat immigration laws. in

sarah westwood is at the white house. sarah, what more have we learned about what happened and what is the white house saying about it now? >> brianna, obviously these new reports are raising questions about how jared kushner was able to get that security clearance, and whether top officials, up to and including president trump himself, deliberately lied about this process. just to give you a little bit of context here, kushner had his security clearance downgraded last year which meant he no longer had access to top security information, and that was a setback for him because he has such a broad portfolio. he's involved in everything and john kelly did push to get that top secret access restored. kelly, as you mentioned, made a contemporaneous memo, and so did white house counsel don mcgahn, outlining what intelligence officials had for getting that clearance. the president denied playing any role in securing that clearance. the white house is largely avoiding weighing into the situation, saying they don't comment on cle
