the 150 foot part of the wharf that collapsed will remain closed. the first sierra snow survey of the year shows the snowpack is close to average for this time of year. the state department of water resources measured the snow depth at phillips station near lake tahoe at 24in this afternoon. they say that equates to nine inches of water content. that's 91% of average for this date. statewide, the snowpack is about 110% of average. and while the numbers are good, officials say conditions can change quickly and the current short term forecast shows dry conditions on the way. >> on this date last year, california started slowly with a very dry fall. the statewide snowpack measured only 28% of average last year, so we're at 91% of average. we were only 28% last year, yet we ended the year with a slightly above average snowpack. >> that snow survey is critical for water managers to forecast how much of the snow melt will eventually flow into rivers and reservoirs, to provide water for residents and farms up and down the state. for more on the weather, we

hundreds of people were waiting for hours yesterday at san francisco's fisherman's wharf to buy fresh crab. the season usually starts before thanksgiving, but the state delayed it for the sixth year in a row because of migrating whales off the coast. one captain told abc seven his crew caught 7 to 8000 pounds of crab overnight sunday. >> it wasn't as many, but the quality was very good. i think we've been averaging a little over 2 pound crab average. >> the off boat crab sales at fisherman's wharf are now taking place on a newly constructed dock created to help fishermen generate income. it's a welcome upgrade for the workers who have suffered financially because of these delays. >> the national weather service is warning of dangerous conditions along the coast today. they say to be prepared for sneaker waves, strong rip currents and breaking waves up to 20ft. the swell began this morning at 4:00 and is expected to last through tomorrow evening. it goes from mendocino county down to big sur. you're asked to stay away from the water, keep pets on a leash, and never turn your back on th
