every public accommodation needs to be wheelchair-accessible. there are also other other forf disability. most of the issues we are hearing about are wheelchair accessibility issues. there is a small group of private individuals who are wheelchair-down that go around the city and they look at small businesses. and i dare say anybody in small restaurants have some accessibility issues. it is another attempt at making your building wheelchair accessible. i am not sure which of you may be merchants and which it may be landlords. the law applies to both. and that means you were 100% liable for any barriers to access and any damages that may be associated with those barriers. there are ways you can defend yourself. with your landlord or at senate -- or a tenant, this can avoid a lot of problems later on. the inspections offer a limited attempt at bringing a civil action for damages. it does not affect the ability to bring damage claims under the symbol laws. however, most lawyers -- they will not pursue the case. so, oftentimes, it works it to stop t

we are being find by the taxi, sfmta for picking up wheelchairs that are not pair a transit wheelchairs. it does not allocate any so-called paired transit wheelchair picks up to taxi cabs. they no longer give us to drivers. they still fine us. what i have done today is to bring in what we call -- this is called a walker. we literally pick up hundreds of them on a monthly basis waned get find by the mta for picking them up because they don't have a paired transit ticket where they have to pay the mta to get one. we are find on a monthly basis for picking these up. this is the wheelchair of the 90s, 2013, more are going to be used. there is nothing in your system to accommodate them. i bring it up here to show you that these fold up and can go into any taxi cab and don't have to go into a ramp for wheelchairs. i also have a couple of letters that i'm delivering to the board of supervisors. >> anyone else care to speak on public comment? >> seeing none? next item. >> we are moving on to the consent calendar? >> anyone else care to speak to the board, please come forward now. >> good aftern

they are a problem for people with wheelchairs. we are looking at them that are greater than a half inch and putting a patch so to make it less of a barrier for wheelchair users. we are about half way done with those on market street. then the photo goes with this initiative to replace the worn out plastic detectable tiles with concrete tiles. over the last almost 10 years we've been putting in the plastic tiles but we found they are not holding up as long as we had hoped especially in high pedestrian traffic and they are wearing out and breaking. so we have a program for replacing those as they wear out and now all projects that involve curb ramp construction should be putting in the concrete tiles rather than the plastic tiles. that's been a change in our program. and that photo

just to reiterate our special needs for this home and why we need wheelchair access and an elevator, john has a long history of back problems. his numerous consultation, injection, surgery and rehab and is actually in discomfort most of the time. in the past he has had at least five or six acute attacks of sciatica, debilitating, pain down his leg. two of his three siblings have already had surgery. our daughter had to change her medical specialty finding that she could not be a surgeon because she simply could not stand for hours at a time with her back pain. while he is stable at the moment, the family history is uppermost in our minds when planning a remodel to this home. we wanted to make absolutely certain that we have covered every eventuality with regard to john's possible future health complications and that would be reflected in this design that david has brought to you. sorry, speaking in public is terrifying. mary gallagher, the rishwains and their architect said we could accomplish all of this within the current footprint. it is simply not true and cannot be done without
