pg&e said things have changed since san bruno. >> our level of preparedness is dramatically different today than when san bruno happened. >> reporter: pg&e's gas division wanted to show off their new gas control center in san ramon all the while explaining this company is much different now than september 2010 when a gas pipeline ruptured in san bruno killing 8 people and destroying dozens of homes. >> we have much greater confidence in our ability to operate those pipelines safely. >> reporter: thursday, the california public utilities commission will voted on pg&e's pipeline safety plan developed after the explosion. puc staff is recommending approval. these are all new faces to pg&e. the independent review panel suggested separating the company's gas and electric divisions and everyone here came on board after san bruno. >> the majority of the entire leadership team is new to pg&e. individuals that were previously part of the gas organization have either retired or moved on. >> reporter: the company itself is reorganizing. by july this room will hold 200 workers. >> we can make better decisions responds more quickly to events th

we are closely monitoring the green tariff pricing proposal that pg&e sprited to the california puc for approval. that is the program when it was initially proposed by pg&e would have pg&e offering to san franciscans an opportunity for 100% renewable product that is greening up their portfolio to using renewable energy credits, so they have placed a proposal before the california puc for -- their agreement. parties are engaged in asking questions, testimony has been filed. the cupuc had scheduled hearings in december for the proposal, but those hearings on hold in order to allow parties to talk further and potentially arrive at a settlement. there really isn't active settlement discussion under way right now. we expect that may happen in january, and if you play out that process we think that maybe july or august of 2013 we will know what shape the program that pg&e has proposed has been authorized by

customers to pay. >> the victim shouldn't have to suffer because pg&e is making a profit from this explosion. >> reporter: many were outraged when they approved a $299 million rate increase to help pg&e pay for its pipeline safety plan. san bruno's mayor echoed a popular sentiment. >> you allow a utility responsible for the deaths of eight citizens, friends, and family to profit as a direct result of that tragedy. >> reporter: the watchdog group urged them not to let pg&e make any profit noting that many of the required fixes are due to pg&e negligence. but the spokesperson says that the company is paying for its mistakes. this money is for new improvements. >> what's important to know is that it was needed to meet new regulations. these are regulations that were put in place after san bruno. any work that needs to be done to meet existing relations have done and continue to be paid for by the shareholders. >> reporter: she says they are disappointed in their decision and because the utility had asked for about 60% more. they hope to have raised about more than $2 million a month and they approved that about l 88 cents next year

that throughout utility, through pg&e and through the city, and cca as you know was still going through the process of being approved in its newest form. this fall when this is finalized so there were discussions with the mayor's office to make sure that it was more even between what we're able to do and what we have already on the books and what pg&e is offering to do, so i wouldn't say that it was strongly deemphasized but a lot of meat was in one recommendation about cca, and it really has far reaching implications and certainly it's discussed within other recommendations even if it doesn't get top billing in that recommendation. >> you said that came from the mayor's office? >> it was -- in conversation with the mayor's office as well as other task force members. >> okay. so maybe you could sort of shed more light on that, so was there a directive from the mayor's office to not emphasize as much community choice aggregation? >> no. there is not a directive from him. they reviewed the draft and in our discussions with them they had concern -- as you know the mayor had concern with cca, and what they did request from us that we only make sure that
