this is a speech i did a program for the white house historical association last night for history. happy hour on for first lady's speeches that made the list of the top 100 political speeches 20th century. and i was asked what was left out and this was the first speech i mentioned her 1975 speech because. she's talking during international year of the woman and she's talking about the era. and but she's talking about the role of. first lady. so let me read you a couple of things she said. but my own support of the equal rights amendment has shown what happens when a definition proper behavior. yes, the expected collides with right of an individual to personal opinions. i do not believe. that being first lady should prevent me from expressing my views. i spoke out on this important issue because of my deep personal convictions. why should my husband's job or yours prevent from being ourselves? there's that authenticity again, being lady like does not require silence and expect us to have absolutely so. so that. thank you, diana. sheila actually, that takes me you because. and in you
