"today in new york's" jen maxfield is at school. still trying to figure out the motive for this attacker. >> reporter: exactly. this was completely random, completely unprovoked, michael. the victim is a 16-year-old foreign exchange student who came here to the u.s. from china just eight months ago. i just spoke with the nypd. they say there's still not been an arrest in this case. we do have some surveillance video to show you this morning, with ch which shows the suspect approaching the victim as she was walking to school yesterday on 12th avenue. police say the suspect was surgical gloves and carrying a box cutter when he grabbed her from behind and slashed her from her ear to her throat. he got away, and she was able to get up and run for help. neighbors here say knowing the attacker is still at large is frightening. >> it's sickening. it's really -- i'm sad, and i feel bad for her. you know, something needs to be done. >> are you worried about the safety of your own teenagers? >>
