let's get the latest from whitney wild. >> the justice department is saying that this began around 2:30 in the morning friday when this man, the suspect, 42-year-old david depape with the pelosi home and entered through the back of the home. based on this affidavit, sounds like there was broke -- that he was able to breakthrough a door and somehow, you know, utilize that to get inside the home. then depape went to the bedroom on at floor where pelosi, paul pelosi, the husband of house speaker nancy pelosi was sleeping and woke them up. at this point, this is where the story gets really, really strange. he is standing there over pelosi sleeping in his bed. and pelosi was somehow able to basically talk him down from violent attack. pelosi went into the bathroom. somehow called 911. and apparently, according to this affidavit, depape knew that but chose not to leave. and then a few minutes later, san francisco police were able to get to the home. pelosi somehow and depape make their way down stairs. paul pelosi opening this door and when police arrived, they see both david depape and pau

cnn law enforcement correspondent whitney wild is outside the u.s. district court in washington. whitney, walk us through these new recordings. >> reporter: well, ana, this was captured by an attendee. it was a roughly two-hour meeting that occurred in 2020. the defense -- excuse me, the department of justice, rather, has been trying to draw this timeline that begins shortly after the election and lasts through and even after january 6th. in this recording which again was about two hours, this is mostly steward rhodes, who the department of justice says was leader of the oath keepers, laying out plans for coming to washington. throughout the recording he is saying that people should pressure trump to invoke the insurrection act and repeatedly the department of justice has brought out evidence to suggest that rhodes believed if the former president invoked the insurrection act that they could basically carry out these paramilitary plans they had been putting together for several weeks. again, throughout this recording he says that the oath keepers would be waiting when the former

cnn's whitney wild joins us now from outside the courthouse to tell us about this new audio recording that prosecutors played today. >> reporter: this was a recording that was captured by an attendee. it happened in november of 2020. it was about a two-hour meeting, mostly led by stewart rhodes, and it was intended to plan for the oath keepers to go to washington in november of 2020. remember, november 14th there was a pro-trump rally here in washington. there was another one in december of 2020 as well. those two rallies pretty critical as they preceded january 6th. again, this meeting was a planning meeting for november 14th, and throughout that meeting, stewart roadhodes was saying people should pressure the former president to invoke the insurrection act, the oath keepers would stand by saying they wanted to bring in weapons outside of washington basically right up to the lain ine, over virginia over the river into d.c. they were saying they wanted some oath keepers in virginia standing by fully armed when the former president in their mind invoked the insurrection act. here's a q

whitney wild for us in washington, thank you. i want to bring in cnn's special correspondent, jamie gangel. jamie, you were first to report the shocking details, including the suspect shouting "where's nancy" before the attack. what else are you learning now? >> so, first of all, we've just learned from a source familiar that speaker pelosi is en route to california and that all five of the pelosi's adult children are also on their way. we've also been told, john, that nancy pelosi actually was able to speak to her husband this morning. this was after the attack, before he went into surgery. our understanding is that he was taken into surgery shortly after that, that he is -- that the surgery -- we're just getting preliminary details, but that the surgery involved injuries to his head. that said, as you reported, and as whitney said, drew hammel, the speaker's spokesman has said that doctors have assured the family that he will make a full recovery. but let's keep in mind, this was a very violence attack. the assailant hit him mu
