cnn's whitney wild with more. >> reporter: the house january 6th select committee is getting a windowtorcade on the day of the u.s. capitol attack. the committee interviewed a secret service agent in the lead car of former president trump's motorcade on january 6th. that interview could help the committee collect more about the planning that day, as well as former president trump's movements. friday's interview, not previously reported, is the fourth with secret service agents and officials in five days. they continue to expand its focus on the agency. and the speed highlighting the committee digging into what the secret service knew and what the secret service saw that day. further, an interview with the driver of trump's presidential vehicle could happen as soon as next week. that agent's testimony is critical in the effort by the committee to try to corroborate testimony from cassidy hutchinson in which she said he lunged at the wheel of the car and he couldn't go to the capitol after his speech on the ellipse. the committee expects to interview more secret service agents as well.

let's get to whitney wild who has this reporting. >> reporter: we're learning one of the secret serviceerviewing at the house select committee today. this is crucial testimony and here's why. the house select committee has really been drilling in on what the plan was for the motorcade as well as what was former president trump's reaction to learning that he could not go up to capitol hill. they have several questions. they want to know what the planning was. they want to know what happened when former president trump said during his speech that he intended to go to the capitol. cnn previously reported that that prompted some discussion about whether or not that was workable and if they could get the metropolitan police department to assist them in a motorcade up to the capitol. that request, that discussion ended with the metropolitan police department basically saying, they can't do it which was why trump in the end was told, you cannot go to capitol hill. so they were going to drill down on all of these questions so this is a crucial interview, again, with an agent who is in that moto

cnn correspondent whitney wild joins me now.ide the house speaker's husband. is law enforcement seeing a measurable increase of such threats and are there responses to respond? >> the answer to the first question is yes. look at the capitol police data point. this has skyrocketed. last year they tracked around 9,200 threats, up from just more than 8,000 the year before. in 2017, 3,400. this has exploded. the reality for resources is it's challenging. we'll get to a little more of that in a second. what the illinois case really highlights is this has spread across multiple levels of government. it has spread across parties. it's just a challenge for really anybody in government, from the local to the federal level right now. here is just a brief quote from that very frightening voice mail. here is what this person said. i'm going to skin darren bailey alive making sure he's still alive and screaming in f'ing pain. i know where he lives. i know where he sleeps. i know where his kids sleep. yeah, that's right. he better kill himsel
