and, to clear things up we have fareway foods registered dietitian whitney packebush. good to see you whitney. whitney: thanks, sheila. good to see you too sheila. today, we're going to clear up three myths on what you should or should not eat if you have type i or type ii diabetes. the american diabetes association actually has 10 myths on their website, but i just picked 3. the ones that are the most misconceptions from what i heard about diabetes. they are also the easiest to clear up as well. my food doesn't represent everything the best. these are the foods that i think will work as well. the first myth is that people with diabetes have to follow a very special diet or buy special products specifically for people with diabetes. the overall recommended diet for someone with diabetes is the same as the rest for us. full of non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, lean meat and things like that. things to keep in mind with diabetes is our second myth: and that has to deal with carbohydrates. so, carbohydrates are what affects your insulin. that is the issue with type 2.

welcome back good sunday morning thanks so much for tuning in, whitney packebush alongside me this morning, we're going to talk about french onion sliders - sounds fabulous. but, since it's cold this time of year don't worry about the so i have made these in the summer on the grill and they like to go outside to the grill when it's cold out so we're trying to find indoor so much easier. i'll show you, you're basically going to make something similar to a meatloaf, and then you can own french onion seasoning. basically, we are re-doing this classic soup mix ririt here to cut down on sodium. i've made this in a large batch and then just stored it in a jar. this is really good and so simple so if you are and like you said, you've never seen these beforr they come in spices. i've never really found them in a smaller container than base of our french onion seasoning. yeah, i had never salt. so this is not sodium-free i should point out, it just has parsley that's ok, i just think adding a little green in there makes it look pretty. so parsley and then a little bit of salt and pepper. and that i

i'm joined now by whitney packebush in another centsable health. november is national diabetes awareness month. it is so food related and you have to have your diet on point. we're going to talk about the three main myths of diabetes.this goes for both types of diabetes. things to keep in mind whether you were just diagnosed or have had it your whole life, i'm going g try to fix some misconceptions. my first is that people have to eat special diabetic or diatectic food and that's just not true. you can have an overall balanced diet that includes whole grains, lean protein, non-starchy vegetables. if you buy things that are no sugar, low sugar, we always say if you're taking one thing out of a product you're probably adding something else. so those products are probably higher in fat and/or sodium. so you don't have to buy any special products it's just being aware of a healthy diet and keeping in mind your carbohydrates. my second myth is that people carbohydrates or starchy vegetable like that. are even more important because it helps manage your

we're back with whitney packebush from fareway centsable health. and we're just a few days away from thanksgiving. and she's here with some tips to keep it all together. and i'm not here to ruin it by any means but maybe some swaps here so you don't leave feeling completely guilty or ruin any healthy goals you have. now until new years people typically gain 7 to 9 pounds. my biggest tip is to choose one or two things to indulge in that you don't get every time of the year. this is why i have this pie...by all means have a slice or two if you know you won't have it again. then for the rest of your meal keep it clean. and just making sure you're exercising the day before and the day after. also just keeping in kind the portion sizes and what your plate should hopefully look like. get a smaller plate if you can. if you have dinner plates and salad plates grab the salad plate. i have smaller plates here they are 8 or 9 inches. we the my plate rule which is a quarter protein, a quarter grains, and half vegetables. and i did cheat a little here because w

us a welcome back to today in iowa saturday i'm joined again by our centsable health expert whitney packebush. this week wraps up national american diabetes month. i am going to show you ten superfoods that are good for any diet not only for people with diabetes. when the american diabetes society was coming up with this list they were thinking about the nutrients lacking in diets as well as comorbidity like heart disease that tend to plague people with diabetes. also foods with a low glycemic index, which means they don't quickly. the first is fish that contains omega 3s or those heart healthy fatty acids. they don't contain any your blood sugar. nuts, like almonds, have been shown to reduce post meal blood sugar. tomatoes for vitamins a, c and fiber. beans for the fiber and protein. they do have carbs and spike your blood sugar a little bit. they are considered a protein and a vegetable. spinach and berries contain nutrients and vitamins many are lacking in their diets. whole grains and sweet potatoes have a slightly lower glycemic index than white potatoes and refined wheat counterparts. c
