the plane went down at 20th and piatt street in wichita. ofcrash landed in a section wichita that was typically referred to as the african-american community. 97% of african-americans were living in this section of wichita. we are talking a 500-foot fireball and gulfs the entire block. 14 homes are immediately destroyed. fire is everywhere. destruction is everywhere. ultimately, 30 lives are lost. i have not found anything in the historical record that says this story did not get the attention it deserved. there was a lot going on in 1965 america. i addressed three wars that were occurring in this period. you had the war in vietnam, and a massive amount of troops are headed to vietnam under lyndon b job in -- b johnson. you had the war on poverty. you also had the war of equality. those are consuming the headlines. not just 1965, but the entire decade. thomas pain said these are the times that try men's souls in the american resolution. racism was ubiquitous across the nation. because of that, i think this crash did not get the attention it
