when fire fighters were called to the 6800 block of wilburn drive in capitol heights. fire was already raging through this home. 80-year-old elaine james was rescued from the flames, but she died a short time later in an area hospital. her adult son who cared for hermanaged to get out on his own, but he was treated for smoke inhalation. neighbors were saddened by the loss and frightened by the circumstances house is on fire. we have smoke detecters. i saw the fire trucks out here. >> reporter: it is equally devastating for them and the james family. her husband james lawrence died two weeks ago. the cause of the fire is still being investigated. >>> and you know, not only was it a hard blow for the family, but it also ripped at the fabric of this community. the lady live here for more than 35 years. we'll have more about this story coming up later on news4. right now we are live here in prince george's county. derrick ward, news4. back to you. >> thanks, derrick. feel sorry for those people. >>> friday prayers at a mosque in egypt turning into a blood bath. the attacke

news4's derrick ward is live at wilburn drive with the story for us. derrick? >> reporter: yeah, jim, you know, this family was already grieving from the loss of a family member. and then this fire happened this morning. now, the cause has yet to be determined, but this normally quiet neighborhood is even a lot more quiet now as it is starting to think in about the loss that happened here earlier this morning. family members going about the grim task of salvaging important papers and pictures, a long life of accumulation in a pickup truck from a fire that raged in early dawn. >> i woke up my wife immediately and i knew charlie is next door. his house was on fire. >> we had to deal with some bars on the windows and doors, and because of the very heavy fire conditions that are reported somebody 2r5trapped, we sent fi fighters in. >> reporter: the victim elaine james was pulled from a second floor room around 3:15 in the morning. rescuers wrorkd to revive her but she died in the hospital shortly after. a fire fighter was also injured and he's recovering at a local
