so this is wildstein's electronic calendar. governor christie to say, hey, can we match up your schedule and what happens? >> well we were allowed to review some records which in some cases showed that there might be contradictions. but at the end of the day we said, look there are seven here. we independently through interviews with people who knew about the meetings or in some cases were in the meetings were -- that they happened. so we knew the two happened. and we knew because the port authority also gave us about 1300 photographs that they had been at all these public events together. and in some cases speaking together at them. >> so your takeaway here is -- i think what the christie people have tried to do is say this is a guy at the periphery of christie world. i think other people have said he's much more central in christie world. what's your takeaway with what you learned from putting the documents together? >> the christie meetings were just part of it. it was really that he was very embedded with christie's top pol

as for wildstein's role in bridge gate -- and on the day after a news report revealed that wildstein the lane closures, his calendar had one 14-hour entry, trenton. we reached out to christie's office for comment. they did not get back to us. joining me now is andrea bernstein, the senior editor at wnyc. good to have you here. >> good evening. >> so you went through a lot to get this. so how did this happen? >> so, we were -- we've been aware that the u.s. attorney in new jersey has been investigating this going on now 15 months. and former prosecutors have told us that no public corruption prosecutor wants to do an indictment right in the middle of a presidential campaign. then he or she is accused of doing something for political motives. so we guessed and we have no inside knowledge that something might happen some point soon and we were getting ready. we were going through all of the documents and all of the reports that have been released thus far. the governor's legal team issued an extensive report. they included many, many thousands of pages of exhibits. the legislature did a

we've not heard from kelly or wildstein. if these indictments come out, you know how they're usually written by federal prosecutors, we'll presumably hear from them through this indictment and there's the possibility that we'll hear from them publicly. if you have others like them who are out there saying you have christie up there saying this was all me there's more to this story than that. that's a whole new layer we haven't dealt with yet. >> what are you able to report on this tonight? >> we're learning more about david wildstein. he's the guy at the port authority who got the famous e-mail, time for traffic problems in ft. lee, and he responded, got it. he's widely believed to be the guy who shut down the lanes. we did some investigating and we got hold of his calendars. we learned that he was very much embedded within the political operation of the christie administration. remember after this happened christie said that he really had very little to do with wildstein. he couldn't remember one meeting he had with wildste

we've heard christie talk about his relationship with wildstein. we haven't heard from wildstein.dget kelly. we haven't heard publicly from a lot of these other principal players. when they speak up, that will change the story too. >> these calendars in a sense helped us do that. >> we start to hear from them. >> they start to sort of say, well, what was wildstein doing? for four years he was meeting in diners and steakhouses with politicians from all over the state of new jersey republican party bosses strategists, democrats, journalists. i mean he was sort of putting together this political piece at the port authority. and while he was there, he was delivering these big infrastructure projects very important to the state of new jersey, but that the governor didn't want to spend money on. so he got to be fiscally conservative with the trenton budget while using the port authority budget to pay for these essential projects. >> great reporting this week. >> thank you so much. >> this story really changed the conversation on this. i appreciate the time today, andrea bernstein, wnyc.
