news4's tracee wilkins is live at college park with more on the arrest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, joe. university of maryland police say that it's what the student was posting on line that led to his arrest. he was arrested at 10:00 a.m. sunday morning here on campus. they say that he was not armed at the time. now 19-year-old alexander song, of fulton, maryland, is undergoing an emergency psychiatric evaluation. he's charged with disturbing the orderly conduct of campus administration, activities, or classes. now that is a misdemeanor that carried a fine and six months in jail. among his posts saturday, "i'll be on a shooting rampage tomorrow on campus. hopefully i kill enough people to make it to national news," and "stay away from the mall tomorrow at 1:30." today we're expecting to hear from the chief of the university of maryland police. he's going to offer more information about the student and more specifics on exactly what led to his arrest. we're expecting that to happen later on this afternoon. in college park, i'm tracee wilkins,

tracee wilkins is live with what we're learning now. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, i spoke with prince george's county a moment ago. they're saying that this is a little different from what we explained. that they actually were coming here because of reports of gunshots fired here at the apartment complex. when they arrived, right over there, they found the vehicle with the gunshot victim inside of it. and the victim, yes, the vehicle was on fire. but they are saying that it appears that the vehicle was on fire because of where it landed there in the woods. let me show you what it looked like earlier. we're at the berkshire at harborplace apartments here in ft. washington. again, this happened around midnight, and someone here called police for reports of gunshots fired here. they did find the victim when they arrived. we're told that a police officer after seeing the car on fire tried to put the fire out. but it spread quickly. and fire, of course, had to respond here and extinguish the fire. he was able to pull the victim f

news4's tracee wilkins spoke to the victim's grief stricken husband. >> reporter: 31-year-old nelvis garcia was heading down randolph road on her way to this wendy's where she worked when this accident happened. her husband tells us that she was just one mile from work, but never made it. jorge martinez says god will be the judge of the drivers. montgomery county police are still looking for. [ speaking spanish ] he then goes on to say that the only thing he can wish for and ask for is for them to cooperate with authorities. just before 4:00 p.m. yesterday, a violent three-car collision took the life of his wife, nelvis garcia. it happened in the 800 block of randolph road near the intersection of timberview court in montgomery county. montgomery county police believe two vehicles, a silver car and a green and white mini cooper may have been racing when the accident happened. the impact of the crash caused her nissan to flip over. she was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. neither the silver car nor the mini cooper remained at the scene, leaving her husband wi

tracee wilkins, bring us up to speed. >> reporter: good morning, aaron.irst of all, let me say that on my left we have d.c. police. we're going to focus on what's happening on my right with montgomery county police who just a few minutes were out here looking for evidence and are still maintaining the scene. this is literally on the line. and in fact, several calls came from both d.c. and montgomery county reporting shots fired. that's what brought police to the scene. let me show you what it looked like a while ago. as police approached the scene, they could actually hear gunshots. now when they arrived, there was a lone gunman who was firing his gun. police say that he began firing at them. they fired back. the gunman was critically shot and is now being treated at medstar. also, one of the montgomery county police officers who responded was also wounded in the hand. we don't know exactly what happened yet. police are not confirming that he was shot but are saying that he was wounded in the hand. two officers from montgomery county responded to the scen

tracee wilkins reports. >> reporter: hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside of the sudanese embassy this morning including actor/activist george clooney one of many arrested this morning. george clooney who just returned from a trip to sudan joined congressman tom andrews, jim mcgovern and jim moran of virginia who was arrested. also martin luther king jr. iii was here along with hundreds of other protesters. they're demanding immediate action to stop sudan's use of food as a weapon is what they're saying. hundreds of activists are supporting this demonstration and they were here today. 500,000 people in sudan's nuba mountains and other regions risk starvation and they're accusing sudanese president omar albashir of blocking food and humanitarian aid and being responsible for this among other hate crimes. here's what george clooney had to say before his arrest. >> we're here really to ask two very simple questions. the first question is something immediate and immediately we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the wor

tracy will kin is live in prince george's county with the -- tracee wilkins is live in prince george's county with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: we've already seen one security truck patrolling the grounds here at the high scho school. police are saying even though they're not sure that this is a credible threat, they are taking this seriously. and parents are also concerned, as well. let me give you a look at the school here that they're patrolling this morning and making sure that everything is going to be safe for these students. this all started with some graffiti that was found inside of a bathroom stall this past friday. now on that dpra" because this -- graffiti, because this was considered a threat, a call went out to parents warning of a possible attack. now a prince william county police spokesman says his department is investigating. he says there will be additional officers on patrol at the school on panther pride drive off of u.s. 1. both school officials and police say there's no evidence of the graffiti being a credible threat. parents we spoke with say that the

news4's tracee wilkins has more on this tribute to one of jazz music's best. >> reporter: time for an encore in honor of jazz great and music legend, duke ellington and the statue has finally arrived here to the shaw neighborhood. it's still sitting there on the back of the truck, preparing to be placed on top of its pedestal there at duke ellington plaza. this will be a 20-foot tall statue and will be put together for the very first time here today on site. jazz musician, band leader, composer and d.c. native, duke ellington or as stevie wonder called him, sir duke, will sit upon a monumental treble clef inspired by his own musical scores, while playing a piano while notes swirl upward. zachary oxman was awarded the commission by the arts and humanities during a competition. we spoke with him at manassas, he was down there where they had finished up the sculpture before they placed it on the back of this truck to have it travel up here to d.c. this is what he said about seeing his creation come together for the very first time. >> i'm excite and i haven't even begun to work on it yet
