judge wilkins served as the lead plaintiff in wilkins in the state of maryland, a landmark civil rights lawsuit that inspired nationwide executive reform. i have invited him to come and speak to my class after this. he has also played a key role in the establishment of the smithsonian national museum of african american history. his work led to the congressional authorization of the museum and the selection of this location. he was named one of the 40 under 40 most successful young litigators. he was one of the 90 greatest washington lawyers in 2008. he was appointed u.s. district judge to the district of columbia. this is a wonderful record and i'm deeply proud to be able to have him speak to you today in the hope you enjoy it. >> thank you and good afternoon. it is quite an honor to be here and introduced by someone with the scholarship and the reputation and the gravitas of a professional so i thank you for that introduction. i will try to take you down the long road of hard truths in 25 minutes or less. i'm a recovering public defender and trial lawyer so it's hard for me to stand s

tracee wilkins talked to the suspect's uncle today. >> reporter: police have been looking for this baby for a month. now we know they believe that the mother is and her husband held this child. and as you said, buried that infant right there beyond that 24-year-old for the death of their 3-month-old baby. they say that the two beat the child in the 8500 block of greenbelt road inside their apartment. according to documents, the father beat the child so much that the baby began bleeding. the parents then believed to have put the child in a car in the parking lot of the apartment complex where he stayed for at least 24 hours. some buried that child in a shall e low grave. they waived their rites and brought police to the grave that e showed them where the baby was buried. the case was brought to the attention of police. . after the maternal grandmother reported her daughter and the baby missing. today we spoke with the mother's i don't know what we're going on with her. i don't know whether he abused her to the point that she was terrified of him and just followed him and did what he want
