william gluco william greetings to you do we know any more about the suspect and his motives. good morning michael they're still piecing this together the investigation is so obviously very fresh the man appears to be a 25 year old from the state of indiana he apparently according to facebook post expressed a lot of frustration and even signs of paranoia and other kinds of mental illness and suffering from other kinds of hardships it appears he was even jobless and he was forced to leave his job for one reason or another that's still on clear and that maybe have been a contributing factor to what he ended up allegedly doing yesterday outside the capital ramming that barricade there is some reports that he is a follower of an admirer of the nation of islam that is according to the southern poverty law center a hate group tracker a watch group a black nationalist hate group but there are so far no connection to that group that this is being treated as a lone wolf incident. you know willing as you know the capital's always been seen as a monument to the american people and their government so clearly there's a delicate balance between keeping it open on the one hand and keeping the people who work there safe on the other where they're now be calls for security around the capitol to be tightened yet again. i think it's important to remember that the security measures did work yesterday that that car did ram into a barricade a police officer tragically lost his life but the person was not able to get any further than that barricade and thousands of national guard troops who are still stationed there since those january 6th riots that insurrection are still there even at some of the fencing some of the security measures have been taken down but that said both the capitol police inspector general and a special task force that was put together by nancy pelosi the speaker of the house have both come to the conclusion that the capitol police are underfunded understaffed under-resourced especially when it comes to intelligence gathering and they recommend giving the capitol police force more resources especially when it comes to intelligence so they can monitor and be aware of potential threats to better protect the capitol yeah you can imagine that the capitol police force must be saying you know what more can we do now d.c. was already on and you have to insurrection is storm the capitol in january of course looking ahead or there are concerns it's becoming more of a target for aggrieved or distribute. there's a long history actually of small and lone wolf attacks over the decades centuries really of the u.s. capitol and i think the 8 there was a gunman that stormed the capitol and killed 2 capitol police officers as he tried to make his way to then majority whip a republican majority whips office so these kinds of things do happen as of course this is a site of of american politics and political headquarters so to speak so of course anyone with a grievance would be an obvious target for attack there is a renewed focus on the threat of domestic terrorism in the united states there was an intelligence report that came out just 2 weeks ago saying domestic terror really is not the number 11 of the top threats facing the united states that more attention needs to be given to it and congress itself is currently debating whether it wants to actually strengthen domestic terrorism laws there currently actually aren't any laws specifically designating domestic terrorism as anything more than just normal criminality unlike foreign terrorism after 911 when many more laws came into place against foreign terrorism but just as we saw after $911.00 there is a lot of criticism from civil liberties groups what that would even do if to give the government more leeway in dealing with domestic terror threats that's reported will include coughed william as always thank you. to taiwan now where investigations are underway after the country's worst real disaster in decades at least 50 people were killed and more than 140 injured when a train smashed into a construction truck that had slid onto the tracks it happened at the start of taiwan's 4 day too sweeping holiday is a time when families often take the train to return to their hometowns and pay their respects at the graves of their elders. prayers as bodies are transferred to funeral homes. and for those lucky to be alive they recount a scene of chaos. we heard the sound of a collision as we heard the collision the passengers in the train were thrown upside down. of a sudden i just fell from my seat to the ground i hit my head and saw it was bleeding. this train was packed with nearly 500 people many cramming into the aisles without a seat but just as the train entered a narrow tunnel it slammed into a truck tearing the front carriages apart. authorities allege the truck from a near
