william whitfield and darnell green face multiple charges of assault in this incident and in fact, the victim in this case a court officer, ray calderon was in court today. i spoke with him briefly before this court appearance and he told me he was fine. before he get to what happened in court, i also want to make sure you know this bit of bronze that all department -- breaking news that all department of correction, facilities are on lockdown today while contraband. let's get to the court appearance so we saw ray calderon again as he was going in court today and eyewitness news has learned per our sources that one of the inmates accused in the actual assault has actually been aqueoused of assaulting -- accused of assaulting corrections officers before. 19-year-old darnell green has been accused of placing calderon in that choke hold and in fact, he has according to sources, has three prior attacks on corrections officers. and including punching a female guard in the face. that was just in march. and in a 2012 court appearance sources tell eyewitness news that he attacked three court o

investigators say 19-year-old darnell green, who is jailed on a murder charge, put calderon in a head lock, then 18-year-old william whitfield jailed on an attempted murder charge allegedly slashed calderon with a sharp object. the lawyer for whitfield the alleged slasher told the judge his client didn't do it! he says whitfield was in another part of the jail at the time of the attack and if being held down, he was in no position to identify whitfield as the slasher. the suspects are believed to be members of the bloods street gang. rikers and all other city correction facilities were put on lockdown after the attack but word didn't reach many who tried to visit friday afternoon.
