anyone who showed up, willie brown would anoint, without asking interest. and today, i announce supervisor newsom is chair of the task force i have formed. it was a difficult day. paul and i were among the many never part of this. paul started talking about this green thing. i immediately jumped up, enthusiastic about it. i was the one with the ev from saturn. i thought it was the best idea i had heard. we created a new commission out of that task force that eventually went into the mta, and now at risk and is responsible for it. paul was responsible for that. he advanced this initiative and codified his passion. we have been celebrating his tenacity, resolve, constancy, and faith in this project. paul, i want to thank you for your vision and not giving up on this. i know you have taken a lot of heat from your colleagues, others who were outraged. i want to just say, hat's off to you and the elected family of san francisco. finally, to mayor lee. my department meetings were never found. i have to acknowledge that. i would never acknowledge that as mayor. ed

[laughter] so she has earned some strides there. going on to director of purchasing and becoming deputy city administrator. most recently,

in the bayview, bret harte elementary, carver, malcolm x, willie brown which was a school closure as part of the school improvement grant and marshall high school. in the mission, chavez, flynn, horace mann which is buena vista horace mann k-8 school. nine were funded by sig. all were funded with school improvement grant dollars and in the bayview, two schools are funded with sig dollars. the two zone offices that were created to support this town are led by dr. patricia gray and in the mission. i have the small staff of fiscal analyst and as secretary. there is a supervisor of professional learning in the mission and in the offices there are content and professional development specialists in the area of special ed and literacy and math. we also have attendance liaisons' and of the secretarial support. -- liaisons and office secretarial support. this is based on national research in the -- based on the chicago school study. there are five essential elements indicated in the study that need to be attended to. if you want to transform schools. creating a clear instructional batons and

the first year i did this breakfast, it was willie brown in your seat, jerry brown in your seat, and we had questions about the difficulty of buildings for the stadium in order to retain teams. it feels like groundhog day. how many years on, we are still there. you seem to be in the hot seat. you have three professional sports teams, all of whom could go elsewhere. i know you just approved a $3 million grant from a redevelopment fund to look at the coliseum. is there a reasonable amount of money within oakland's ability to spend that would guarantee these teams remain here? or do you have to be open to the possibility one or more of them could leave? >> our goal is to keep all three of them. that is one thing i do not want to share with ed, is my sports teams. we will clearly be dealing, i think, with some announcements of around coliseum city. i think we have to wait to see how redevelopment shakes out, to look at some of the other options. i am feeling generally optimistic. the family joke is if i was not so optimistic i would not be mayor. i am optimistic about the teams. we are i

when we sat down with former mayor of willie brown and a pr specialist, does he have a chance to recoverly? let's take a listen. >> he is out, he is totally and completely out and he does not have the resources or the key to get back in. it looks like the stars are aligned to make sure >> you advise politicians whether they have been picked up for shoplifting or bounced out of office, what is your assessment? >> he is gone. he handled this poorly from the beginning and what he needed to do was admit his guilt early on and throw his mercy on the court. he did not do that and when he was forced to do that by the court is too little too late >> even if your politician, you know your in a system with lawyers who say don't do anything, we can beat this thing, are you really your own person in that situation? >> your not and unfortunately for politicians do not fully appreciate and understand that. the minute they are accused, the con right will not apply to them. if they want to sacrifice the political career than they can be treated just as if they're part of the mafia >> you have sat in the

willie brown actually made his name by going and trying to see one of the homes. it was a very political thing. he would walk up with a whole bunch of people in the person showing the home would sneak away. >> even in the teens, there were a lot of neighborhoods that had restrictions against certain groups of people. >> this was in the 1950's. willie mays had trouble buying a house in san francisco. a couple of people would not show him a house. they had to enlist the mayor and a bunch of people. this is their reservoir. companies would take a block and there would start wrecking houses. there were building two a day -- they were building two with a. the 1930's were the big boom times for the sunset. >> this is a recession. >> these are the homes in west would park. -- in westwood park. >> how did this perform? the composite the assembly -- come's assembly -- composite assembly. >> they would stucco it. they would put chicken wire on it. >> when i inspect buildings that are being remodeled, i see that the chicken wire mesh is completely gone. >> it is galvanized.
