and we had our two great mayors, willie brown and ed lee. and the minute that they saw gabby they said ron, get everyone's attention here. we can make 200 people be quiet. we have to make a tribute to what happened today in sandy hook, and a tribute to gabby. and during that tribute which was pallpable, i could tell that the tech community was going to do something. and we did. on december 15th, we started an ad hoc committee of tech volunteers, many of them luminaries in the industry. and we convened three subcommittees that went to work. and we had a defining conference call on december 17th, 72 hours after the tragedy. there were 150 people on that call. 50 of them gathered together in an office in san francisco. and we took action. we resolved that we were going to do something, we convened into the subcommittees that very quickly rallied around the governor of connecticut asked for a moment of silence on the one-week anniversary of the tragedy. so we rallied around that and attracted hundreds of thousands of participates by signing a pe

so we saturday down with mayor ed lee and former mayor willie brown. our first question is how much of this entire subway project has to do with the politics of china town and taking down the embarcadero freeway. >> clearly the embarcadero freeway coming down was a boom for the whole city. now we have to look at how people will move in and around the city. i think we always needed a north and southbound ability. we don't have anymore more rooms on the streets. so we have to go under ground. this is the future of san francisco. i think the movement of people will be important. >> this is interesting on a political note this project has been in the works for over 25 years. it has been center of countless public hearings although not heavily attended. it's been in every congressional appropriation in san francisco. it's been ratified by the board of supervisors time and time again. but when the digging started people were up in arms. >> of course we are taking care of as many concerns as possible. i think we had a brilliant solution to those that were com

we sat down with mayor ed lee and former mayor willy brown.be impossible, so why do it i asked them? >> i am excited about the design. looking at all the different concerns we have, the open space, all of that is very competitionry. >> but mayor brown, you are a veteran of many fight, including those along the waterfront. putting something down there is a touchy subject with the public. >> no, it is a touchy subject with a minor group of people on the public side. if you check throughout san francisco, most san franciscans overwhelmingly respond we would like to have the warriors and we like the idea of pier 30-32 being utilized. >> but there are concern, however. how do you address those concerns and should this go to a vote of with people? >> well, pier 32 is fall into our bay. literally it would cost us $45 million just to keep the piers from falling in and fix those. no one will have that money. so, you have private investors coming in offering $1 billion of structural repairs as well as an arena. i think that is an incredible offer. then
