come across the willie brown bridge, will be something that says, a.c. transit.hen i walked in here, i was accosted and stopped by a lot of bus drivers and some other people. all a.c. transit. this button i am wearing, it they consist -- they insisted i put it on. therefore greg harper, as a member of that joint powers board, and as a person who does the things for a.c. transit, our tenant who will use the facility more than anybody else, because everybody that comes over here by a.c. transit will be put off the bus near second street, no matter where they're going. they will have to walk back down although shops and things. we'll be taking money out of the east bay forever. to work with the community members and i think i found my calling i started in 1996 working for willie brown, jr. i worked in he's mayor's office of housing in the western edition and left 3 years went to law school of san francisco state university and mayor brown asked me to be the director of the taxicab commission and through the process i very much card by the contracting process and asked me townhouse the city purchaser and worked with me and i became the deputy administrator and . >> having trouble struggling to make ends meet folks will not understand what importance of voting is so we decided to develop our workforce development services after a couple of years offering pathways to sustainable jobs. >> (clapping.) >> we've gotten to a place to have the folks come back and have the discussion even if participation and makes sense we do public services but we also really build strong communities when i started this job my sons were 2 and 5 now 9 and 6 i think so the need to be able to take a call from the principal of school i think that brings a whole new appreciation to being unders

[applause] [laughter] they donated that to the school, not to willie brown, the ex-mayor. kevin durant was in attendance on behalf of the kevin durant charity foundation, whose mission statement is to enrich the lives of at-risk youth from low-income backgrounds through educational, athletic and social programs. in the same spirit of giving back, alaska wanted to energize students by bringing a local role model to discuss education. thank you, kevin durant and alaska airlines for the $10,000 donation. [applause] and, finally, on monday, september 24, yesterday, had the opportunity to visit five schools, three elementary schools, and two high schools, and i got to attend the schools with captain tara wright. captain wright is a pilot -- or captain with alaska airlines and first captain of an all-female african-american crew in alaska airlines history. [applause] captain wright visited our schools and emphasized the importance of s.t.e.m. education. we were thrilled and honored to host her and have her visit our schools. that ends my report for tonight. >> president mendoza-

i welcome students to willie brown in the morning and then went to hillcrest. it is one of the first schools in our district to begin using a japanese methodology called teaching through problem-solving during meth -- mathematics class this methodology focuses on student solving novel problems in which no solution is known in advance and this builds critical thinking and mathematical understanding. over the past school year, francisco middle school has dramatically improved its culture, climate, among teachers and students, by using encouragement and constructive feedback. as a result, suspensions have dropped over all but the fight -- highest dropout rate by 15 percentage points. there was a wonderful visit at all three sites and the great to see amazing work being done by our teachers and staff and they are completing this work with our students. last thursday, students at dr martin luther king jr. academic middle school participated in passport day, which helps onboard students with the school 's expectation for the year and a fun learning environment. stude

my daughter who is only in the fourth grade, when she heard about willie brown she said mom, you have to get that location because if he gets in, i get sibling preference. so if i am a fourth-grader who can get it, why can't we teach the process to adults. it has flaws but it will work. and history has proven that it will work. all we have to do is educate our families and get out to where families are. when we hosted the roman tonight , we had more african-americans turn in applications because we went to them and we showed them what it is. we explained to them the importance of the first round. that is all it takes. we don't have to slap it and throw it away. it will work if we work at. and hydra, we want to thank you for all the tireless work that you have put in and for me, you were a tireless advocate at willie brown. i thank you so much. when then-mayor willie brown asked me to come to the p.u.c. as a general manager, he said to me, one of the reasons that he felt that i could make a difference here particularly in addressing the hetch hetchy system and the water program was the relationships that i had outside san francisco with the wholesale customers outside of the p.u.c. as colleagues of mine in local government, we work together on a number of activities, including water issues. and it was those relationships and collaborations that i had had over come prior to coming to the p.u.c. that helped a lot, enormously, to move the work of the p.u.c. at that time forward. the formation of bawsca and the relationships among the bawsca members that was in place really needed the support of getting the work done, not just getting the water bonds passed, but the support of the agencies outside of san francisco to work collaboratively to see the day, which we've arrived at, where the project could be completed. it's those collaborations and collaborations that daly city had with the p

. >> reporter: behind the podium were several dozen middle school students from willie brown middle school in san francisco, one of the schools that salesforce executives volunteer at to mentor students in computer science. earlier, there was an active protest about one of the clients for salesforce, and they want salesforce to stop the contract with the u.s. border patrol. they funded billboards and the company was called on to cancel those contracts because of the policy of separating families at the border. co-ceo marc benioff said he is open to hearing about those concerns. >> technology is going to have these key stakeholders saying, how will you use this technology. we've created a whole new structure we will announce called the office of ethical and humane news so we can engage and have those conversations. so important to us. >> reporter: will have to wait to see what the announcement is and what channels or venues salesforce will initiate for people to express concerns with the company's clients. back out here live at third and howard is the intersection you are looking at and you

she worked with mayor willy brown in the beginning of his administration and was able to rebuild the oceanview library. she stayed in his face and many of you who know mayor brown, once he makes a commitment, and if you're tenacious enough to get his word, he handed his word to her, and they rebuilt that library, and mary can now take single-handed credit for that. i can go on and on. and the next person that we're going to honor, luiz, that serves on the ocean avenue association and revitalization project, mary was one of the founders of that, laid the groundwork for that, and now we have a cbd along ocean avenue that's helped transform that neighborhood and that commercial corridor. she's a member and a founder of the friends of the geneva carborn and power house working to get funding to revitalize one of the only historic sites in district 11, which now has been received about half of the funding, and work has begun, and we're going to do a ribbon cutting in the coming spring for what we believe will be one of the premier performing arts and cultural spaces for young adults in san
