willy brown was a part of that group. so many of our ancestors decided on that day we're going to step out proud of who we are and what we represent as black people. juneteenth is so much more than what we see in the celebrations and festivities. it's freedom. it's a new day. it's a welcomed opportunity for us to grow and to thrive and remember of course our history and to learn from that history. to learn now more than ever how we don't want to continue to see the next generation grow up and repeat that history. we have work to do. and today we celebrate. we celebrate juneteenth as a national holiday and in fact, yesterday, i signed declaration making it an official holiday in the city and county of san francisco. because i gave all city employees the day off, they all left and didn't show up for work today but that's okay. what i appreciate about so many people, they said i want to take this day to learn more about juneteenth. i want to take this day to serve and to honor the ancestors. dana king and this exhibit monume

i know at our site on saturday, willie brown, vaccination site.milies came to get their 12 to 15-year-olds vaccinated and many were asked the question, are you vaccinated. with some encouragement, we a number of families who didn't think they would get vaccinated that day. many times we are understanding that it's simple as just trying to get it in your schedule. over the summer, we're going to be working with the department of public health, walgreens, everybody we can team up with to get vaccinated. more people we have vaccinated, the better we are going to be at taking care of we need to work together. the second is contact state legislators to develop a release guideline now. we are moving forward. we know that the way the winds are blowing now, rates are coming down now. everything in the decks -- direction we will turn and come back. we need those guidelines. they will. help us. right now we continue to move forward, full return in the fall, august 16th, a full day five days a week. >> president lopez: thank you so much for the information.

at the time, willie brown was mayor and i was at u.c. davis.re that, even before i attended u.c. davis, i didn't know much about college, i didn't know much about what i was going to do in my future, and i was fortunate enough that when i went gallelo high school, my teachers started spending a lot of time with me talking about that future and talking about what is possible. in fact, i started off as a chemistry major, working at lawrence livermore national lab as an intern. and because i was such a clumsy chemist i realized that probably wasn't the best field for me. and since i was such a talker, i decided, why not go into politics, they talk a lot. and i was lucky enough to get this internship. during that time that i worked as an intern, i also worked cleaning houses and i babysat and i worked at wells fargo bank because i wanted to make sure -- i mean, i was living in poverty my grandmother raised me and i was still living with my grandmother and she was struggling, and our family was struggling, and i didn't want to give up. i didn't want
