. >> senator, it's willie geist.ll the void as planned as the americans moved aside in northeast syria. is there anything the united states can do at this point to mitigate the damage that we're watching happen in real time? what is your resource here? >> well, trying to get the president to change course which is of course not an easy proposition because this is all about election politics for him. but if we were to keep a more substantial troop presence and there's at least three locations. one stops iran's pathway to threaten our ally the state of israel to that preserves the oil field so it doesn't fall into iran or others hands and creates a cash cow for them and that could be a way to fund the kurds in their effort and fight against isis and thirdly in the southern part of syria if we kept a significance presence that there would at least mitigate some of the consequences but to be very honest with you, some of what we have done is what the president has done, i should say, is already having ripple effects. eve
