cbs's willie james inman is at the supreme court for us tonight. llie, good evening. >> reporter: good evening to you, christine. the high court took up this case following a series of legal challenges questioning the use of mifepristone. and now after nearly a year in legal limbo the justices could soon decide how the drug can be used in the united states. the supreme court is set to hear oral arguments that will decide whether to reverse the fda's decision to expand access to mifepristone. one of two drugs used for medication abortions in the u.s. jessica levinson is a legal analyst. >> you don't want a group of judges substituting their own judgment for those of scientists and experts when it comes to approving any type of drug. >> reporter: in 2023 the majority of abortions in the united states were carried out using medication. mifepristone was approved by the fda in 2000 but has since undergone reviews, expanding the time frame it could be used and making it easier to obtain. the court is weighing a decision to roll back those efforts made by
