willie brown for, for quite a while now and we been looking at a change for willie brown. that kind of school closure was something we were talking about this school improvement grant came about. >> moving on, ball revere. paul revere. we're looking at a transformation model. and possibly. paul revere will get a new principal. and we are in the process of -- they went through an interview process already, april 27th. whenever we had those -- 17th. thank you. and -- and -- i understand that paul revere is going to continue to go through the process. they're going to have another round of interviews that we're supporting them with. we haven't had a principal for paul revere. and it would be the transformation model and we would not be replacing the staff there. the latest information i have. and everett middle school has a new principal. and mr. kirschy been there two years. and everett is a transformation model and forest man. and mr. sanchez has been there one year. they had -- and they have several community meetings and having more and they're a transformation model also

willie brown was mayor. i was in the middle of it all. right behind me and around me, they came up with this notion of the largest bond ever in the history of the city and county of san francisco. i was trying to figure out how i was going to deal with the supervisors and the mayor and everybody else. but one of the things about san francisco is that if there is a will there is always a way. if there is an interesting, there will always be a way to try and find avenues to help all of those individuals here in the city and county of san francisco. despite all of the differences, despite all the different interests, despite all of the political machinations you can imagine, which came together as a city and we passed that bond. in the history now is how do we move forward to provide the very, very best services for all those individuals here and those individuals who come? how do we honor the paths of those individuals who understood the importance of linguistic and cultural competence and all of those attitudes and values back there permea

i am in the office with mayor willie brown, who i still could not find enough mr. mayors to say his name. louise comes in to discuss the future of laguna honda hospital. she had just won this huge settlement with the tobacco company. she was the first of any local city attorney to join in that lawsuit. at the time, a lot of people were arguing tobacco companies would overwhelm us. there will be all of these freedom of information act. you should not do it. she stood bravely and did it. she said to the mayor, and i will never forget -- she said "we have this opportunity. we can either use this money to rebuild laguna honda or we can pass it away -- piss it away." that was the exact quote. i think willie brown is a great location. i do not know when we will be able to open the school. it will be great to have mandarin emersion there. for the high school fair, it would be great to get our student advisory council involved. i think they would be perfect and would give really good feedback in terms of what they would have liked to of seen in eighth grade in helping to select a school since we're keeping the current city-wide process. for the members of the public that were not part of the process, the majority of high school students asked the week keep the city wide policy because they wanted the choice to go citywide. i am very worried about isa. that was the one pathway that concerned me the most. a lot of the others seemed to make sense, were contiguous. i liked that there were some schools like everett better really going to diversify going from 81% to 50%. i was concerned there was a significant drop for the same sub group for francisco middle school. given that we have malcolm x and carver going so far out, my one feedback would be whether we can consider havin

our goal is to close willie brown this year. hopefully, we will pass another bond measure in 2011 to come back and build a brand new state of the art school and create a magnet school there. it will be for the neighborhood but we will allow others to go to the school there. when we were looking at this, we realized -- your input is valuable. we are not done with this. we are looking at it. no matter which way we would go, there are going to be groups of people who are going to view it differently. if you look at what we're doing it with elementary, i think that is a pretty basic step that we have done. the next step is looking at middle schools. middle school is all a little bit trickier for a multitude of reasons. i think those reasons are showing themselves here tonight. that is why we're going to have the hearings. we want to hear what your ideas are and see what is out there. will meewe may need to be more t about what we have gone out for in terms of grants so that people know when these 10 schools receive these funds, they
