let's bring in willie brown, former mayor of san francisco. mayor brown, thank you for coming back. look, i understand that this is supposed to help education. but a lot of people are saying it's going to go to medical care, health care, prisons. a lot of people say it's going to go to teachers' unions, it's going to go to pensions, it's going to go to other forms of benefits. and willie, you know you're losing business to texas and tennessee and other states. how can you do this? >> well, it's very simple. the state of california, unlike the federal government, we at the state level are in the position where we're trying to do what's right about the state and about the people of the state. and the people bought into it. the legislature put the measure on the ballot. and with the governor's blessing and with the governor being the architect of it. and then the voters themselves. 54% of the voters in this democracy said good idea. let's move on it. and that is what occurred. and believe me, i don't think it's going to drive any businesses out of the state. >> do you really think -- w

we were shown very cool computer graphics that led us on a virtual tour of what willie brown will look like. it is very exciting to see this, you know, brand new middle school come to life, at least in the presentation. the architects showed the kinds of finishes and colors that will be incorporated into the design. what i found most interesting was, one of the biggest messages about the design of the school was that it would incorporate elements of restorative practice and circle and sort of really facilitate conversation and dialogues based on this school district's emphasis on that. it was really very exciting. secondly, we discussed future agenda items for the committee and the meeting schedule for november and december. so the next meeting of building and grounds will be on monday, november 19th, at 6:00 and i really do urge my colleagues on this school board to come to that meeting. we will be talking about... i am sorry, number 1 6? >> you said december 19th? >> november... >> i thought that you said december. >> november 19th. >> we will be discussing 1950 mission, and other pr

we sat down a little while ago with the former speaker, willie brown. he said democrats don't need the republicans. we need him to comment on whether or not the party is still relevant. you're the chairman of the republican party. >> part of what happened last week is they spent $70 million. that was unprecedented. it's unprecedented nationally. that made it very hard to compete. republicans now need to do what i call foot in the door momentum. they need to find a niche and an area where they can connect with voters and stand on that issue and then wait for the economy sadly to go down, because it is, and then be there to be opportunistic and make their way back. >> okay. the reason that california units is twofold. one is to support the tax plan, but the other thing is proposition 32, which republicans put on the ballot to try to take unions out of the political equation. you invited a fight you couldn't win and they cleaned your clock. >> thank you very much for saying that. i was so powerful that i did all of that. in fact, that was put on the ballot
