willie brown served more than thirty years 15 years as it's speaker then he was elected and served as the first african-american to serve as labor in san francisco. mayor brown has dedicated his skills to transform and open american politics to all. he is really one of the smartest people in american politics and i tease him for tipping his tow in my field of journalism. perseverance and trades that describe mayor brown and the ship project made possible that deals are not enough political power grows only when public good is done at the same time. please welcome mayor willie brown. . >>> the effort to rename the western span of the bay bridge after willy brown hit a snag this morning. the san francisco chronicle reports several boards of supervisors are zbens the renaming. an assembly committee passed a resolution to rename the span willy l. brown jr. bridge. it then passed through the full assembly 68-0. opponents sent a letter asking that the name change not be heard. they are the first family of the bay area bridge builders, if you will, claiming four generation. albert was an iron worker on the bridges in the '30s. now his great grandson is working on the new bay bridge. laura anthony has the story. >> in the 1920s when al zapa first went to work, he was just a young man looking for a good job. >> at 27 he started on the first bridge. working there doing anything. then got into the seal part and loved it. >> when al worked on his first bridge in 1927 he and his fellow iron workers were untied to the structure in any way. >> i don't know who quoted it, but for every million dollars you use a person. >> after this bridge, he went to oakland to work on the bay br
