wilson walker spoke with a woman who has a tiny home but still chooses to spend half her time living on the street. >> i'm actually from bakersfield, i grew up there for a little bit, and arizona. >> reporter: with family and a lifetime spread across several states, linda has been moving for much of her life and she is about to move again. >> basically all around the tenderloin i have been moved around. >> reporter: and with some help from a sympathetic neighbor, she has dragged her tent about 25 yards just off the sidewalk. >> but it's like, why do i have to pick up everything, why can't i just pull it to the side and you guys will cleanup, you know? >> reporter: this is the routine . they pick up the trash and power wash the sidewalks. this happens at least every two weeks, and neighbors say virtually nothing has changed for about a year. >> the art institute is right here, and there are elderly people trying to get through the sidewalk, it is impossible for them to walk on the street. >> we have a lot of fantastic doctors in the building, we will welcome anyone. >> reporter: rebec

that is where wilson walker joins us live now with new details, wilson? >> reporter: the police confirming, i guess, sort of what we suspected it was a san francisco police officer who fired the shots, killed someone in the consulate here and we know a little bit more about the time line it was a call to san francisco police after a car went into the lobby of the sort of public access entryway to the consulate here. we are told the car went all of the way into the lobby. a call went out to san francisco police to respond to that. they came racing over here. we are told it was several minutes before the police officers arrived on the scene. again, to a car inside of the building. here, now, in the last 20 minutes or so, the police describing happened when the officers arrived here. >> reporter: officers entered, made contact with the suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred. officers rendered aid and summoned the paramedics from the fire department. the suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. this is an open and active investigation

wilson walker spoke with when user on the street about what he thinks can actually help. >> like every five minutes there is a siren. i just only assume that it is for an overdose. >> on a south of market alleywa with emergency responders working in multiple directions at a single time, jay is livin in the middle of san francisco' drug crisis . something he will tell you he is struggling to pull out of. >> i don't know anything else except to what i've got to do to hustle up cash, get my mote room, get my dope . >> everyone is asking about getting help heard what would be the best kind of help for you? >> the best kind of help for m and every single junkie is to get them off the streets. get them housing, put them in a residential treatment. i've tried to outpatient. it is not a 24-hour helpline. you need somewhere where you can go . >> we are interested in showing their arm multiple pathways of treatment . >> we want to make sure people not only understand that but understand that there is hope and recovery is possible. >> with the numbers now on pace for the deadliest year on recor h

wilson walker is live at the scene with what we know so far. wilson. >> reporter: we really have learned absolutely nothing since we talked to you at 5:00. as you mentioned, a car crashes here at the consulate followed by a shooting. we really don't know much more. san francisco police put out a press release describing this as an officer-involved shooting. just being really specific about what they said here, they do not specifically describe it as an sfpd officer. is that just the wording that they chose or are they signaling this was some different type of officer involved in this shooting? we do not yet know. all we know is there was a car crash, a shooting here at the geary side of the building, the laguna entrance on the other side, no damage or scene of any activity. the incident appears to have happened on the geary side, the public service kind of entrance to this building, i think where you'd show up if you were looking for some business with the consulate, a visa issue or something. that is where this happened. we're awaiting a press
