this is hacienda in gamble not far from winchester, as you mentioned. workers hit that gas main when they were at a construction site. the gas main is here on hacienda avenue allowing the natural gas to escape. police were called in to go to nearby homes and apartments on areas around here, virginia avenue, walnut drive, hacienda to tell people that because of the leak of natural gas, they may want to leave. we were told about 80 homes ultimately were evacuated this morning. all of those people were sent to the campbell community center. the good news is now, the leak has been capped. no danger, according to campbell police and pg&e crews that have been here on the scene. everyone is allowed to come back to their homes and there is no more risk in this area. scott budman, nbc bay area news. >> good news. thank you, scott. >>> and new details now in the effort to clean up some of san jose homeless encampments. some people living at the largest one in the city were told they had to pack up and leave. nbc's bob redell is live. >> reporter: that's right. th

it remains the talk of the community in frederick county ju outside of winchester.s darcy spencer has more from outside the deputy's house. >> reporter: the shooting happened inside this garage. a sheriff's deputy is getting ready for work. his security alarm goes off. he believes someone has broken in. he grabs his gun. he sees someone in the garage heading toward him, and shoots. but it's not an intruder. it's his own teenage daughter. >> it's hard to know or be able to explain what he is actually dealing with now. i know it's got to be hard. it's got to be rough. >> reporter: authorities say after he fired, the deputy then realized he just shot his 16-year-old daughter. she was coming home at 3:45 a.m. after sneaking out of the house earlier that morning. the deputy called 911, reported the shooting, then crashed his suv while rushing his daughter to the hospital just a few miles away. can you only imagine how desperate this officer was to get his daughter to the hospital. we're told he ran off the road and hit this pillar. that caused this brick wall here to cru
