joshua winer. good morning. >> good morning. >> thks for joining us.m the early or mid, rather, 1990s to 2007, that is when we saw youth suicides on downward trends. but nce 2007 it looks like we've seen an increase. what kind of numberare we talking about? >> so fortunat still youth suicide, so from ages 10 to 19 is what we're talking about here, they are still rare. so we're talking about maybe one in 10,000 kids committing suicide. and the jority of those are boys, 80% are boys. but we have seen this significant increase inhe last decade. there is a doubling of suicides for girls, ages 15 to 19, and then the numbers for boys have gone up by about 30%. so numbers are on the rise.ut bhat is i think very interesting and i think that something that will surprisewe viers is that despite the ad as they areas now and having gone up over the last decade, we are still nott t he point where suicides were in thearly '90s. so in the early '90s more kids in this age group were committe suicide. so we are bad, these numbers are not good, but it is not as bad as i

joshua winer.ver lot of the last decade in terms of mental illness but why is this stigma still there and how do cast it away. nt there are a fewactors. first of all, meal illness is not easily visible.i go on with somebodik it is not le a broken leg. end we don't know what causes this stuff and there is no proof that somebody has al menta x-ray , and there is no or study that could show a t problem with brain. so that is hard for people. but i also think that people need to realize that mental llness is just normal behavior carried to the extreme in most cases. o when you are depressed, everybody kind of -- can associate or familiar with being down and it is really hard for people to appreciate that for some people that feeling is much, much wore intense. and so they just think, well, wait, a minute, i've been down before, pull yourself up by your dootstraps and put on your big boy pants an be okay and people can't appreciate this stuff that occurs in other people until it happens to them o somebo
