i am from montgomery county, went to winston churchill high school and went to the university of maryland for undergraduate work. you know, traveled all over the country and its nostalgic and wonderful to be home, mostly because of the people but also because of the environment. it's just wonderful to be here today. i acted like to thank my parents and of course my beloved tuesday, my service dog, my caretaker, my brother and in some ways my prosthetic, but my tuesday, my kindred spirits really, who saved my life, and while that may be the subtitle of the book, a wounded warrior and the golden retriever who saved him, some people think or wonder if that is hyperbole, or they may ask, well, what did tuesday do? did he sniff out a bomb? did he, you know, pull you from a burning car or something of that sort. and i say, no, he does much more than that. he saves my life every day. he helps me physically and psychologically with a number of the wounds of war, and he helps me get up in the morning. he will retrieve my shoes and the things that i need so that i don't have to bend over and aggrav

winston churchill was absolutely right, we always do the right thing, but always after exhausting every other possibility. and we're in the midst of exhausting every other possibility right now. why should we want to do the right thing and what is the right thing? well, i don't think that's a big mystery to most of us. the right thing is to live in peace, freedom, for individuals to have rights and responsibilities, for them to be able to change their governments as they wish, for there to be transparency and accountability. for minority, women, religious, to have rights protected by the state and for the state otherwise to not dictate too much else into the economic or private lives of the individual. sounds okay to most of us i'm sure with a few tweaks here and there. well, that's how we live for the most part. and i think that that's how most people wish to live. again, with certain tweaks to the parameters of it. but certainly that's how most people wish to live. and many don't. many particularly in the middle east don't. and what does that do when so much power is repossessed in th
