joining me is one of the stars of the movie, winston duke, with me in new york.rd you were going to get this role, how did you react to it? what's the significance to you of the series of comic books and the story? >> well, comic books for me was this really great inlet into learning about american culture. i'm from trinidad and tobago, and one of the first ways i learned what kind of being american meant was reading these comic books and learning, you know, even about the mutants, about this world that doesn't really understand you and doesn't -- can't accept your powers and your strength, but you'll get older and meet other powerful people, too, and there will be a new day and the world will accept you. so i really learned about america that way, and comics lped to do that. >> this particular story has been around since t '60s and been relevant throughout. how do you situate it today? what makes this resinate to audiences and you today? >> well, for me it's definitely something that allows me, and i hope a lot of other people of color, to see themselves reflect

i'll ask you a question i asked winston duke last week.ie have meant as a kid to go to a theater and see a movie like this? >> it would have been thrilling, exciting, all those things that it is for my 12-year-olds today. their chest is puffed up, they're full of pride and self-respect and they can envision themselves doing anything, being kings, queens, you know, tech savvy whizzes, anything is possible. >> i imagine that you have a lot of choice, you're picky about the roles you take. what was it about this one in particular that was attractive to you? >> well i think absolutely first off was when i got the call from ryan coopler the filmmaker, the director, the filmmaker absolutely, and so i had seen his previous two films "creed" and "fruitvale station" and was impressed with his storytelling. he's also the co-screen writer of "black panther" along with joe robert cole. i was impressed with the way he brings such passion to the screen, through the story, through the characters, the way that it's casted. so whatever it was, i was on boa
