and i think we have a great partner to begin with in city car share because as a nonprofit, they know and they really have been working with us closely, not only with our own fleet but now the exposure to residential areas. i can't wait to get car sharing into even public housing. because you have seen some of the large parking areas near public housing and to be able to use that space to car share for our low-income residents and make sure they don't feel the pressures to have to not only buy a car to get around the city to their jobs but also to repair their cars on those very valuable open spaces that we have. that's going to be i think a big culture change as well. i'm a big fan of this and i have been gratified in working with david chiu on this incredible experiment that i think is going to prove very successful. and the great thing about it is that the inertia is coming from residents themselves. they're willing to offer up very positive way their own spaces they have been competing for every single night to be able to use car sharing as a philosophy. i think that will come int

city. i am going to share about eight or so slides with you very briefly. you may be seeing more people biking. you are not making that up. seven of 10 san franciscans bike in the city. it may be a family on sunday streets. you remember the picture from last year, folks coming out to ride recreational or to explore the city and waterfront by bike every now and then. there has been an increase here official counts showed a 58% increase in the number of people biking just in the last four years, and we are really noticing that. our bike lanes are more crowded, and we're working with the city on that. if you do not mind going back a couple. thank you. and just a little bit about what we do on bicycle safety and education, which is really the focus here. we hold popular sessions around the city, free bike education class is for adults who want to learn to ride safely and responsibly. this is a picture of one held two or three weeks ago. the portico hosted this -- the port co-hosted this. you see in the picture it was actually fall. we had to bring some chairs in

another unique thing that the city is doing in terms of helping our businesses and dealing with capital needs is as a city, sometimes, we implement regulations, and you would think that might require some substantial capital for small businesses to do an understanding that a lot of our very small businesses may not have the capital means to be able to implement those regulations. a new one that has just been implemented is there is the fats, oils, and greece requirements that restaurants are going to need to have for their restaurants, and many businesses may have to install new equipment -- fats, oils, and grease. we parted with opportunity loan fund to help provide a specific program for this new regulation for businesses, and we have also had many businesses experience some drive-by lawsuits, and understanding some of the financial needs in dealing with the losses, making the 88 improvements. again, we partnered with opportunity loan funds to help businesses comply and to deal with their legal needs and with these losses. also, we held businesses understand, if you want to do busines

we are helping put together the one-stop center with the city. we are having teams that will relocate here from all over the world. certainly starting with oracle racing and the members of the event authority. we are trying to make sure they get documentation they need, whether it is federal, state or local government introductions or entities they need to work with. being available to help them with housing or school referrals. putting that together. we are in the planning phase of that and trying to understand what the time line is they will need in order to have those needs met and working closely with the city so we don't recreate the wheel and we leverage existing access whether 311 or neighborhood services, working with congresswoman pelosi's office and having direct connections to the federal agencies that ned to deliver some -- need to deliver pieces. i think that is generally what you need to know is going on with the organizing committee. we will add more members. we are also helping for the advancement of the sustainability plan and com

they have a lot history of partnership with the city of tent and cisco. the target area for the clubhouse is bounded by geary to the north, van ness to the east, haight street to the south, to visit tehran to the west. this contains more than 13 public housing facilities with more than 3005 of the units and more than half of those units are family units. the proposed facility at fulton and gough is expected to serve more than 200 youth per day during the school year and more than 252 per day for the summer for a total and a client base of nearly 3000 youths, ages 5 through 17. it is important to know, the boys and girls club house in the context of a larger market activity a plan, appendix c, the committee to prove it appendix to the plan, specifically highlights the need for child care facilities in the area. the 2008 estimate from the c. wyeth identified a need of 35,000 square feet per share recreation space. they estimate would that it would grow to 57,000 feet. the cost of construction of a facility of this kind was at $70 million for the $57 a squar

our school district and the purpose of having this summit is to have a larger discussion with our partners in the city and the non-profits and the parents and there are some intermediate activities that are taking place right now with parent groups and teachers and having teachers exchange visitations that i've been setting up that should move us into a more thorough informed discussion when we have this discussion. so it's going to be on february 25, it's a saturday, from 8:30 to 12:30, and it most likely it will be at everett middle school. i'm trying to find out whether it's available or not but it seems like the most logical place at this point to have that and we've identified a keynote speaker, national person from the nekc foundation, senior vice president that president mendoza have met. ralph smith, he's going to come. he's focused on his national initiative which is the grade level reading initiative that's sort of taking hold in quite a few cities so it's a perfect match for him to come as a speaker and there's other people that's going to be involved so hopefully we have a nice co-chair fr

the work order procedures, with other city departments and work orders with five other city departmentsognize -- there was a very short time frame to implement recommendations. however,cfa kept in touch and addressed some of the things before the report was issued. the objective was internal controls over work order procedures, evaluation implementation of the 2010 reports general recommendations, review a sample of mou's to determine if there are appropriate for the services provided and to determine if they comply with the mou terms. we did not do any further work or review on the baseline budget. i will discuss each of the first two objectives in the next few slides. they resulted in more generalized findings and recommendations. for the third and fourth objective, we selected the mous for more in-depth testing. we will discuss those issues later in this presentation. cfa followed up on the report with our usual process which requested implementation status updates from six months, one year and two years. at the six-month follow-up, mta report all 42 recommendations had been implemen

i'm proud of the safe roots program we're part of along with the city. we know that the appetite for bike suggest there when we're young. how do we cultivate that and keep it going and how do we make sure that our traffic jams in the future are bike parking log jams. we know we need to invest. the important bike routes along oak and fell streets, a key route from the bay to the beach, connecting a complete crosstown bike route so folks ages 8 to 80 will feel safe, comfortable, welcome riding. and it was thrilling to ride with the mayor a few months ago on oak street and as soon as we finished that few blocks on oak street he turned and said, why don't we have a bikeway there? it's a great idea. fantastic. let's work together for this. similarly, market street, we have huge opportunities as market street is going to be repaved and we look forward to working with the city agencies to make sure we take the opportunity to put it back better. we know it can be done. we have such opportunity to put it back better. our vision at the bicycle coalition, and we sh

i have been living and working in the city with a lot of these folks over the years. this presents an opportunity to shine with our arts community to use the arts to create economic stimulus in other neighborhoods and make sure that all of san francisco shares in this opportunity. a lot of us have been talking about this issue, the international arts festival being one of them. there are many organizations that hold programming that could actually be participating in this event. what we are suggesting is what the person from mr. martin was presenting, to collaborate, to promote, and focused infrastructure on transit, using the arts to bring people out to the neighborhoods. in the north mission, south of market with the entertainment venues, bayview, hunters point, car arts activities, theaters, galleries, artists' studios where we can invite them in the programming and work on some sort of collaborative of reach to let people know. this is something you guys should think about. technology. we are giving a lot of attention to tax breaks. does the time to get them on bo

you have been a city administrator, fraud investigator. there been 10% cuts with another 10% contingency. all of the fat has been cut in previous years. where would you cut? where could the city save some money? >> my very first job was the whistle-blower investigator under the mayor. some people believe there is some truth to why i have accelerated in of my jobs needed because i know where all the skeletons are. i think the secret to our budget -- we are scraping to the bone. it will be a combination of evening things out. our public safety division's have to get smarter about what they're doing. this move that the chief made the of the day -- the other day with assistant chiefs. he determined he did not need four assistant chiefs. one of the first moves he made before asking the work force to contribute was to make them deputy chiefs. that save $75,000 right there in salaries. i think there are more efficiencies to be had. this is where we get ideas even from city employees that tell me what we can do to save on workers' comp, expenses we should not be spending.
