so i'd like to thank the witness and witnesses for joining us today to discuss the tsa partnership program commonly referred to as spp. they may opt out of using federal screening work force. in january of 2011 based on the review of administrator, administrator pistole decided not to expand the 16 currently participating airports unless there was a clear and substantial benefits to doing so. i might add there should be a security analysis in this as well. i hope my words, substantial benefit in his testimony or questioning, we will determine that substantial benefit or clear and substantial benefit does not ignore the security ramifications. it cost the taxpayers more than using the federal screener work force. in a lot of that fact, that would be reason enough to support the administration's decision not to expand the program but the list goes on. further expansion of privatized screenings hampers the ability to push out intelligence information to front line workers and adds to inconsistency. it makes changes more complex. that means you not only have to vet the front line officers but

called their first witness. after almost 50 witnesses were called to the stand, the commonwealth rested its case wednesday afternoon. most of the day's testimony centered around former teammates and roommates of huguely as well as several women he send text messages to when he was drunk before glove was found dead. one of his teammates who was a pall bearer at the funeral told the court that hours before she was found dead, huguely returned to the apartment drunk and seem strange. he asked what was wrong several times and all he got back with a blank stare with no answer. there was an awkward exchange between a former teammate who seem to forget a lot of details from that night. the commonwealth showed a report that he gave to police and asked if it jog his memory and he said it did not. with the commonwealth resting, many wonder how the defense will handle its witnesses over the next several days. we asked a criminal law expert what we could expect. >> what they will be talking about mostly is expert staff, cau

many are wondering how could defense will handle its witnesses over the next several days we asked a virginia criminal law expert what we could expect. >> it seems pretty clear that what they will talk about mostly is expert stuff, the cause of death analysis, the kind of things that have been spending the last couple of days cross- examining about. >> as far as the defense, it made a motion to drop all the charges in the case except grand larceny, but that motion was denied after a brief argument. the first witness was a toxicologist from virginia commonwealth university testified that even though love's blood alcohol content -- the following a witness was a neuropathologist specialist from chicago. the doctor was brought in to counter testimony piven by two state neuropathologist tuesday who claimed her brain had evidence of blunt force trauma. he testified that while he sees evidence of swelling in the brain, he dismissed the testing done by the state. the doctor said in his opinion, love most likely died from blood stopping in her body and then starting again. the doctor also tes

lexy love, her sister was the second witness to testify. there was testimony. the prosecution seems to be using them to set up their case. really, we learned much more this morning in the opening statement from the prosecutor who talked about the night that yeardley love died, talking about george huguely going to her apartment and assaulting her. he talked about the evidence of the jurors weerl' -- we'll see, including photos. he talked about a video interview that charlottesville police held with huguely. we will be seeing that at some point in the trial. there will be a lot of evidence. he talked about the turbulence in their relationship. he said george huguely had been drinking heavily the entire day leading up to the murder. the precipitation ending with this admonishment north jury -- for the jury. it deteriorated ultimately with him killing her. then it was the defense' turn. the attorney for george huguely told the jury this was a shattering tragedy for the love family. he said when you hear the whole story, he said it's much different. the defense wil

he said he is willing to come as a witness. in fact, he even testified or talked and interviewed with staff for both parties. they asked him if he ever approved gun walking. he said he had not. they asked if he was ever briefed about gun walking, he said no. he was aware if the senior justice department officials were ever thorsed gun walking. he said no. surely if the details of operation fast and furious were approved at the highest levels of justice as has been judged -- or accused. then mr. nelson would have known about it. this, is however, what he said in that interview. i quote, i don't believe i had knowledge of the specific tactics used in fast and furious until the facts started to be disclosed in the media. so mr. melson said he never justified gun walking. he wasn't aware of it in the fast and furious operation. and he never briefed the attorney general or anybody else about it. i think that is pretty dire information. this interview took place seven months ago. chairman issa refused to let him answer the questions.
