good evening everyone and thank you for staying with wjz news. digging through the debris after maryland is slammed by nearly a dozen tornadoes, wjz is live in hartford county with extensive coverage. kai jackson has more on the extensive damages from these storms, kai. >> reporter: that's right mary, you're absolutely correct. the tornado damage is broad. not only were they tornadoes but as you've seen in the past it was also extensive flash flooding. in hartford county, three teens are in good condition. the teens became trapped as they walked down the shore. the three were able to grab on to the a ledge. they were rescued by a levy system the firefighters sent to them. >> like branches and a lot of stuff. >> so they couldn't have gotten themselves out. >> huh-uh. >> reporter: flash flooding was a big problem from this storm wasn't it. >> it really was. we saw accounts of two to 3- inches of rain, and that's normally what we get in a month. we saw that in one afternoon. back to the tornadoes, these small pockets are scattered throughout the sta

good evening everybody and thank you for staying with wjz eyewitness news.here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. a man and two dogs are killed after their baltimore home goes up in flames. tonight, firefighters say it serves as the reminder of the importance of smoke detectors. rachel davis has the cause of the fire. >> reporter: tonight a family has become an example of what happens when a fire brews and there's no warning. baltimore city firefighters are still trying to determine what caused this home on east bourne avenue to go up in flames and why a smoke detector was not inside the home. >> a smoke alarm provides the early warning signal to allow you and your family to get out of that home. >> reporter: firefighters arrived within minutes and found thick black smoke and flames spewing out of the roof of the home. but the fire had already turned fatal. >> i performed the rapid attack to suppress the fire. other firefighters performed search and rescue. when they did find the remains of the person who perished inside that home. >>
